GREAT MILLS --- Two persons in a
passenger car headed north on Rt. 5 at about 3:15 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 18th, were
seriously injured when a St. Mary's County school bus, operated by Robert Raley, 78,
suddenly pulled out on the highway without yielding the right of way.
There were no injuries to the 15 children from Little Flower School who were riding on the
bus with Raley.
Firefighters from Valley Lee (2nd District) Fire and Rescue were assisted by Leonardtown
Volunteer Fire Department and the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad. Officials from
the county's parochial school bus office were on the scene and Raley was charged in the
crash by Maryland State Trooper Andrew J. Rossignol. See print edition for
photos of the crash and the latest on this story.
