General Assembly
may take up slots again
Coles Point
Tavern: This bar over
top of Maryland waters at the Virginia shoreline has a
St. Mary's County liquor license and has slot machines
sponsored by Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department. The
liquor license was suspended in the past but Leonardtown
fire department officials told The Post that they go
over to inspect the slot machines occasionally and by
lending their names to the gambling, the firemen pick up
30 percent of the take. Little Flower school may
have taken in over $100,000 in the last few months from
machines at the Brass Rail while a local businessman
reportedly won $25,000 from a slot machine at the Brass
Rail. The Comptroller's Office has been
asked if they review the take from slot machines in the
area and they are trying to figure it out. We'll
let you know what they report. ST. MARY'S TODAY

Feedback:
The wife and I have been having a meal and playing the
slots at St. Mary's Landing generally once a week or so.
Some weeks twice. Anyway, we like the machines, but I
don't buy this "gaming device" argument being used to
have them. Here's some observations that I think are
worth pointing out to Mr. Dyson (I'm guessing you're in
frequent contact with him?):
1. St. Mary's Landing is to the point where they don't
even keep the machines full of the so-called pull tabs.
I don't know whether the machines are broke or have been
rigged, but a number of the machines no longer drop the
slips into the tray as you play them. I sat on one that
wasn't spitting out any paper and the out of paper alarm
went off. The lady came and opened up the machine and
hit some buttons and it was working again, but the same
thing went on: no pull tabs were coming out of the
machine. How do you call this pull tabs?
2. Game multipliers. How can these machines possibly be
pull tabs when you can choose the bet multiplier? I can
choose whether I'm going to bet one nickel or 64 nickels
on each spin. What kind of pull tab that "knows the
outcome before you play" possibly works like that?
3. Security. When you go to the Rod & Reel in Chesapeake
Beach they generally have off duty cops standing there
protecting the money and the players. Who's protecting
us here in Saint Mary's establishments? I honestly
wonder if a bunch of shotgun toting thugs are going to
rush into St. Mary's Landing while we are in there.
What's to stop it? What are the odds on these machines?
It isn't published. If I walk into Bingo and play pull
tabs, the fine print on the tabs tell me how many
winners there are in each category. If I walk into a
casino, they frequently say for example that "quarter
machines are paying 93% etc." None of this is being
disclosed. How much does it cost to win that $25,000
prize? The $1,000 prize? Etc. Etc.
I think there's a reason we aren't being told this. The
pull tab boxes tell you how many tickets each box
contains and how many winners there are, that makes it
rather easy to get a money count: these gaming devices
on the other hand are leaving the public and the tax man
clueless about cash intake versus payouts...
Last, I can't wait to see these "nonprofit" tax returns
that are going to have be filed next year on Guidestar.
I'll bet you can't either.

Comptroller's audit agents make tour of illegal slots
ANNAPOLIS (Feb. 26, 2008) ---
The wild west Dodge City
atmosphere surrounding the neighborhood casino bars of
St. Mary's County today got a visit from the
Maryland Comptroller's Office.
NBC 4 news,
following on the heels of a Post report, made their way
into St. Mary's and dutifully reported a peek at the
issue of slot machines, but the most interesting part of
their report was this comment posted by a viewer a few
hours after the report:
"I have info in regards to these machines. As a past
employee of a large company who houses a lot of these
machines in the state of Maryland after many years
of work I have seen all there is to see. I could be
an advocate against gaming. As a small gambler
myself, I know the revenue they could bring into the
state. I also have see many cases of addiction. They
can be called "Pull Tab Machines" , " Bingo
Machines" or anything else you want to call them.
They look like, sound like, play like a SLOT
machine. They are played just as much and pay
jackpots the same way. To me it is a smart way that
some for-profit business owners have gotten around
the laws.
"
These machines are ran off of a computer program and
have a predetermined number of winners for each
payout on the chart. They do not have reels inside
that stop abrupt but they have a disk inside that is
linked to a program. If you are interested in
checking them out, search the web. If you Google
Bingo Machines or FMI I am sure you can find
information on the machines and how they run. You
might be amazed to find that some of these machines
are linked to companies out west....."

St. Mary's Board dumps code home rule
(charter government): third
time was the charm for changing government
LEONARDTOWN
(Feb. 26, 2008) --- Charlotte Hall developer and former
school board member John Parlett Jr. had set in motion
an elaborate choreography of a special program of St.
Mary's College seminars on charter government for St.
Mary's County after getting the St. Mary's Commissioners
to appoint a task force on changing the form of
government at which Parlett clearly and distinctly told
the panel that the county needed a "benevolent dictator"
to properly run local government. Parlett, who
wanted to be the first elected county executive after
taking a pass at running for commissioner president in
the last election due to health problems, was feeling
his oats after heart surgery and wanted to take on the
task of bringing to St. Mary's the move to more local
control of government with less reliance on the county's
legislative delegation.
At today's meeting of the commissioners, without any
further adieu, St. Mary's Commissioner Dan Raley (D.
Great Mills), made the motion to kill charter government
and on a 5- 0 vote, the motion was approved.

House Fire

OWINGS --- A
working fire at a house on Christiana Parran Road took
place on Thursday night, bringing North Beach,
Huntingtown, Dunkirk and Prince Frederick companies out

the home ablaze and were on the scene for several hours
after getting the fire under control. Deputy Fire
Marshal Don Brenneman reports that a child playing with
a lighter in the home of Virgin Queensberry caused
$75,000 in damage to the 12:28 am fire. The
fire was contained to the child's bedroom.

Vote for Hillary and Huckabee
Small crowd turns out for Democratic unity in
contrast
to national excitement
Richmond Mayor still sulking about
Bill's 'fairy -tale' remarks about Obama...many
voters do get it, blacks can say anything they want to
in the discourse of politics but if anyone, including a
former Democrat President says anything that they don't
like or approve of, they are branded a 'racist'.
Editorial Opinion: This
radical racism on the part of some blacks is getting a
little old and who the hell ever thought Bill Clinton
should be defended. But that is exactly what
President Bush did today, he stuck up for Slick Willy in
an interview with Chris Wallace at Camp David. Bush said
it was "wrong" to describe Clinton as racist.
But it appears that the pandering to blacks in general
by the limousine liberal whites of the Democratic Party
over the years has finally come home to roost.
Anyone, regardless of color, can be right or wrong, but to always assign
racism as the motive for the beliefs or opinions of
others, and to get away with playing the race card for
so long, is just wrong.
It looks like the Democrats are getting what they
deserve...in spades.
This ought to wise up some blacks to the truth, that
they ought to hang out in the party of Lincoln, which is
really the party of opportunity, not be kept around for
their votes and never given the one thing that will
truly set them free: opportunity.
Credit should go to the many accomplished blacks such as
former PG County Executive Wayne Curry who have stuck by
Hillary's side. It is easy for the empty-headed who want
to go to a good party to be part of the excitement of an
Obama rally. It is quite another thing to actually vote.

GREAT MILLS FIGHT CLUB
ANOTHER
RED-LETTER
DAY for GREAT MILLS HIGH SCHOOL
Videos
of stupid kids knocking the stuffing out of each other
have been removed from You Tube...
For the benefit of the parents who have been raising
these hooligans, who attend Great Mills High School,
readers were able to view these videos the punks made of
themselves conducting a "Fight Club" on the grounds of
Town Creek Elementary School. Of course, these
heathens are just a few of the students who attend the
school and are not representative of the student body as
a whole, they are representative of themselves and their
parents. The police are investigating the
activities of the "club". For the
bleating and braying jackasses of Great Mills, a search
of You Tube did not reveal similar fight clubs for
Leonardtown, Chopticon or Ryken High Schools. We
are afraid to look for any clubs in Charles County
schools.

Nader Says He Will Run for Prez!

On Meet the Press, Ralph Nader says nation is a mess due
to the two parties...Democrats say Nader in race threw
Florida to Bush and hold him responsible for what has
taken place in last seven years, asked Tim Russert.
Nader says, no, the Bush Administration is responsible
as are the Democrats for allowing the mess with Iraq,
the economy, Katrina, and every other mess that has the
American people with the lowest level of confidence in
government in history...."These are the two parties who
have spoiled things"
Nader points out that Obama had been pro-Palestinian
prior to running for president, now he switched
sides...for now.
"If the Democratic
Party can't landslide things this year they just ought
to fold up" ---
Nader responded to
Russert when asked if his entry into the race could
cause Obama, if he is the nominee, to lose the chance to
become the first black President. "The Republicans have
a candidate who promises perpetual war".

Congress Investigates
Star Ball Player's Backside
In the
interest of fighting drug abuse, will someone
investigate the use of drugs by Members of Congress, as
young people look up to politicians as role models also,
at least investigate the many
cases of bad comb-over...over use of Viagra and Botox...
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 13, 2008) --- A congressional
hearing being held today into the use of
steroids by ball players, specifically New York Yankees
star pitcher Roger Clemens who adamantly declares that
he has not used human growth steroids.
Clemens has been lectured by Chairman Henry Waxman (D.
Calif.) for interfering with the investigation by
contacting his former nanny.
Clemens' lawyers objected in an unusual outburst from
the floor, saying that they had advised Clemens to
contact the nanny to learn what she remembered about the
issues involved. Congressman Dan Burton blasted
the former trainer for Clemens after he admitted
multiple cases of lying to federal investigators and
said that the trainer is simply denigrating a good
player and a good man.
Congressman Tom Davis (R. Virginia) pointed out that
medical records being used by Congressman Lynch (D.
Mass.) to question whether a eruption on Clemens' butt
came from injections, were contradictory and that the
doctor who issued the opinion from looking at the MRI's
had never examined Clemens.
Congressman Dan Burton (R. Indiana) loudly criticized
the 'Trial by Media' of Clemens and made Macame admit
the many times he has lied on the record and under oath.

New Blue Crabs Get Tax
Dollars by the Bushel

While Gov. O'Malley boosts
your taxes,
he has now approved $7 million for this
playground which will charge you over
$500 for season tickets to be able to
enjoy your investment. Still, no MARC
commuter trains are coming down the
tracks to this stadium, near the CSX tracks,
in Waldorf. $7 million would have funded
five sets of locomotives and surplus
passenger cars are available from federally
funded transit systems such as Chicago system
which must spin off it's rail passenger cars for
only $1 as they were originally purchased with federal
dollars. That's right, rail cars which
can still be used for a buck apiece.
