Fireboats and Coast Guard Bring Distressed Boats to
Shore
POINT NO POINT --- A mid-morning call
from a boat that was taking on water about 3 miles out from Point No Point, which is just
above Point Lookout and south of Point Look In, brought a rapid response from the Ridge
Volunteer Fire Department.
The Ridge firefighters set out quickly in its fireboat while the Maryland State Police Med-Evac helicopter Trooper Seven sped to the area.
The first report was for a 34 foot boat which was headed straight for shore in an attempt to beach itself and to avoid sinking.
Ridges fireboat was dispatched along with the next due fire company, Solomons. But Solomons was unable to produce a driver to get its boat in the water and the fireboard then dispatched the 7th District Volunteer fire department.
The Ridge fireboat found a vessel in distress with two persons on board and the Coast Guard arrived to aid a vessel which rescuers were not certain was the same crippled boat.
But mid afternoon, it appeared that there were two vessels which needed assistance, one which had to be towed and the other which had been taking on water.
