God’s Direction Best
By Joseph Bush
Candidate
for GOP Nomination for St. Mary's Commissioner President
I am a candidate for President, Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) for
St. Mary’s County. It is my desire to render services to you as the next
president.
As an officer in the United States Military, in particular the United States Marine Corps, I accepted the very meaning of leadership, service, tradition, loyalty, respect and a “can do” attitude.
These character traits were part of my life while growing up. Having been embedded in my character for years, retained even after leaving the military, I wish to avail those valued qualities to you for the next four years. I will impact the county and will maintain basic principles of moral and ethical practices.
I believe it is absolutely necessary for Christian and Judeo-Christian values to become vital elements in the overall moral and cultural discourse of our county.
The real issue for Christians is not whether they should be involved in politics or contend for laws that affect moral behavior, but the question is: how?
Without our strategic involvement in the culture-shaping arenas of art, entertainment, the media, and education, this county cannot be the great and glorious society it should be. Christians are to do their duty as best they can.
But even when they feel that they are making no difference, that they are failing to bring Christian values to the public arena, success is not the criteria. Faithfulness is. For in the end, Christians have the assurance that even the most difficult political situations are in the hands of a sovereign God.
The very best platform upon which we may build a case for Christianity at work rests on six massive pillars: integrity, faithfulness, punctuality, quality workmanship, a pleasant attitude, and enthusiasm.
ELECT me as that person, and it will only be a matter of time before Christianity will begin to seem important. “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. God’s direction is always best.”
I will serve with humility! Relevant issues to be considered:
· value in the quality of life for everyone; from the youngest to the oldest citizens; through educational, cultural and recreational pursuits.
· affordable housing and public services throughout the county.
· health care programs for all segments of the county.
· maintain good, sound fiscal management and responsibilities.
· transportation alternatives; making provisions for helping those least able to help themselves—with special interests on the elderly.
· competent municipal government with modern police, fire and other public safety services.
In summation, we are more aptly concern about the same issues.
We must be steadfast about public safety and homeland security. There are four potential activities that pose an imminent danger in case of a terrorist attack and/or natural disaster.
Taxes and rising assessment costs are also a concern.
Discussions on alternate revenue sources are highly recommended. I will support the use of soybeans, corn, potatoes and other appropriate farm products as raw materials for ethanol and bio-diesel.
Growth monitoring and management must be established and when/where necessary, infrastructure must be developed to supported and reflect the needs of the 21st Century, to include our library systems.
We should seek alternative transportation and road systems; to make provisions to service the elderly who are incapacitated, and might need transportation to a doctor’s appointment, a pharmacy and/or a grocery store.
For the people of St. Mary’s to succeed, as a county with freedom of expression and ideas, municipal government must take upon itself to support and provide for its residents needs of recreational, environmental and cultural activities. If these needs are met and carefully coordinated with our corporations, businesses, civic associations and schools, our gains for future generations will be obvious.
Given the unpredictable nature of our world, our state, and our county, there will always be unexpected situations that require reactive responses. But successful reactive responses are made, by those who are prepared. As your commissioner president, I shall enhance the county with a visionary perspective, leadership, integrity, dignity, insight, honesty, moral and ethical values and commitment. As stated by Abraham Lincoln, “I do the very best I know how, the very best I can, and I mean to keep doing it so until the end.”
I retired from the Marine Corps in 1996, and of course I am partial to the following statement by the late President Ronald Reagan. And he said:
“Some people live an entire life time and wonder if they have ever made a difference to the world; but the Marines don’t have that problem…”
Four years from now, someone will be able to say, “Some people live an entire life time and wonder if they have ever made a difference to St. Mary’s County; but Joseph Bush doesn’t have that problem…”
I volunteered to serve our country, as a Marine, for many years; you can elect me to serve our county for four years.
“TIMED TESTED!!!
“ST. MARY’S COUNTY NEEDS A PATRIOTIC LEADER. “
SEMPER FIDELIS (ALWAYS FAITHFUL)
