Mrs. Curtis, maiden name Lillian Simmons, was born and raised in Savannah, GA on October 25, 1933 the daughter of the late Wade Medicus and Ellen Cecil Dowse Simmons. She graduated from Beach High School. While still in Savannah she met and married her husband of 50 years, William Curtis Sr. It was then that Mrs. Curtis began her lifetime dedication to raising and caring for her family. In the first nine years of marriage, the Curtis’s gave birth to five children.

In 1964, the family relocated to Lexington Park in Southern Maryland where Mr. Curtis had obtained a job with the Department of the Navy. While raising five children Mrs. Curtis found time to volunteer at her children’s school as room mother and as a Den Mother for local Cub Scouts. She also found time to volunteer in other parts of the community. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as gardening, sewing and cooking. Some of her relatives and friends lovingly called her “Mother Nature”.

Curtis, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael Gardner Curtis of Livermore, CA, Reginald D. Curtis of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Anthony B. Curtis of Accokeek, MD, one sister, Rose E. Sanders of East Orange, NJ, two brothers, Wade Medicus Simmons, Jr. of Lumberton, NJ and Charles G. Simmons of Savannah, GA, five grandchildren also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. George Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
