responded
to
the
Hole
in
the
Wall
Bar
located
on
Sotterley
Road
in
Hollywood,
Maryland
for
a
property
destruction
call.
Investigation
revealed
Jospeh
Lorenzo
Vittatoe,
23
of
no
fixed
address,
who
was
extremely
intoxicated,
threatened
to
blow
up
the
establishment
and
kicked
the
front
door
with
his
foot
causing
it
to
shatter.
Mr.
Vittatoe
was
arrested
and
charged
with
destruction
of
property
and
threatening
to
explode
a
destructive
device.

CALIFORNIA
—
St.
Mary’s
Sheriff’s
officers
report
that
on
November
4,
2008
Deputy
R.
Nielson
responded
to
Church
Drive
in
Great
Mills,
Maryland
for
a
domestic
disturbance
call.
Police
say
that
their
investigation
revealed
Scott
David
Tator,
29
of
Great
Mills,
Maryland
was
in a
verbal
dispute
with
the
victim
which
escalated
into
physical
altercation
when
he
allegedly
pushed
the
victim
down,
choked
her
and
pushed
her
head
against
a
futon
causing
a
laceration
to
the
back
of
her
head.
Police
say
that
Tator
was
arrested
and
charged
with
Second
Degree
Assault.
Scratching,
biting
and
kicking
leads
to
slammer
LEXINGTON
PARK
— On
November
5,
2008
Deputy
Watters
responded
to
Hollybank
Drive
in
Lexington
Park,
Maryland
for
a
report
of a
domestic
assault
in
progress.
Investigation
revealed
Nicolette
Leann
Akers,
25
of
Deltona,
Florida
arrived
in
at
the
victim’s
residence
unexpectedly,
opened
the
door
to
the
residence
and
entered
uninvited.
The
victim
is
very
familiar
with
Akers.
A
verbal
dispute
began
between
the
victim
and
Akers.
Police
say
that
the
victim
told
Akers
she
was
not
allowed
in
the
residence
and
was
asked
to
leave.
Akers
refused.
The
verbal
dispute
became
physical
when
Akers
assaulted
the
victim
by
scratching,
biting
and
kicking
the
victim.
Akers
was
arrested
and
charged
with
burglary
and
second
degree
assault.
Man
charged
with
ripping
off
own
family
LEXINGTON
PARK
—
St.
Mary’s
Sheriff’s
officers
report
that
on
November
6,
2008
Deputy
M.
Green
began
a
theft
investigation.
Investigation
revealed
John
Kory
Koegel,
20
of
Lexington
Park,
Maryland
stole
various
checks
and
a
credit
card
owned
by
the
victim
(relative)
and
from
August
2,
2008
until
November
5,
2008
forged
the
victim’s
signature
on
several
checks
and
used
the
victim’s
Visa
bank
card
to
purchase
gift
cards
from
business
within
St.
Mary’s
County,
Maryland.
The
loss
value
from
the
checks
cashed
is
over
$850.00
and
the
loss
value
for
the
credit
card
purchases
is
$900.00.
Mr.
Koegel
was
arrested
and
charged
with
4
counts
of
theft
and
one
count
of
theft
scheme.

Yanic
LEONARDTOWN
—
St.
Mary’s
Sheriff
Timothy
Cameron
announces
the
passing
of
K-9
Yanic.
K-9
Yanic,
a
Belgium
Malinois
was
acquired
by
the
St.
Mary’s
County
Sheriff’s
Office
in
2004
from
the
Gaffney
Police
Department
in
South
Carolina.
K-9
Yanic
served
as a
patrol
and
narcotics
detection
dog.
He
was
partner
to
Corporal
Edward
Evans
and
Senior
Deputy
First
Class
Todd
Fleenor.
Throughout
his
years
of
service,
K-9
Yanic
and
his
partners
participated
in
numerous
K-9
tracks,
apprehensions,
drug
searches,
demonstrations
and
community
events.
Yanic
and
his
partners
are
credited
with
several
important
apprehensions
to
include:
the
apprehension
of a
subject
on
July
17,
2005
who
assaulted
two
law
enforcement
officers
in
St.
Mary’s
County,
the
track
and
apprehension
of
Paul
Anthony
Pitner
who
escaped
from
the
St.
Mary’s
County
Detention
Center
on
March
30,
2007,
and,
in
January
of
this
year,
the
apprehension
of a
man
who
severely
beat
his
girlfriend
in
their
Lexington
Park
home.
In
2004
and
2005
Cpl.
Evans
and
K-9
Yanic
participated
in
the
Annual
Iron
Dog
Challenge
which
was
sponsored
by
the
Pennsylvania
Police
Work
Dog
Association.
The
Iron
Dog
Challenge
is a
three
mile
course
where
each
K-9
team
must
negotiate
man-made
and
natural
obstacles,
demonstrate
marksmanship,
a
K-9
carry
and
an
officer
rescue
drag.
The
K-9
team
must
also
demonstrate
various
police
K-9
specialties
such
as
criminal
apprehension,
narcotic
detection,
bomb
detection,
and/or
a
rescue
find.
Both
years
Yanic
and
Cpl.
Evans
placed
in
the
competition.
Recently
Yanic
was
diagnosed
with
cancer
and
on
November
6,
2008
had
to
be
euthanized.
Police
K-9s
serve
the
public
and
don’t
ask
for
anything
in
return,
putting
their
lives
on
the
line
everyday,
just
as
their
two-legged
partners
do.
The
men
and
women
of
the
St.
Mary’s
County
Sheriff’s
Office
salute
K-9
Yanic
and
thank
him
for
his
commitment
to
this
agency
and
to
the
citizen’s
of
St.
Mary’s
County.
