Md., Va., D.C. Set New Bay Clean-Up Goals

Here we go again:

Almost a third of Solomon's Island has now been bought by The Chesapeake Biological Lab; money which was supposed to be used for research has been wasted on buying up pricey homes to house staff.  ST. MARY'S TODAY photo

more bucks for scientists who use the money to pay for buying up all the real estate on Solomon's Island; for paying some oystermen to plant oyster seeds in beds that some other oystermen get to harvest.  The politicians pose for photos and pat themselves on their backs while they spend your tax money on smoke and mirrors.  The real problem lies in sewage plants in DC and Baltimore, suburban homes dumping huge quantities of fertilizer on lawns to make them greener and storm water runoff into streams which brings more pollution to the Bay.  The legislators from the big 5 counties and City of Baltimore all fall over themselves introducing new bills to clean up the Bay but its just the taxpayers who get cleaned out while there are less crabs and oysters every year in spite of the millions allocated.  How has the real estate empire built up by the Chesapeake Biological Lab at Solomon's produced more oysters and crabs?  Can the taxpayers get a receipt for what has been spent by the State of Maryland for planting oysters?

ABC 7 News - Caught on Tape: Officers Kick, Punch Prone Suspect After Chase
Photo courtesy of ABC 7 News
ABC 7 contradicted by its own readers on view of police capture of suspect
A video of the capture of a suspect running from police in Howard County was promised to show the man being beaten by police as he laid prone on the pavement.  The television station's breathless report that the video clearly showed this abuse was accompanied by the video itself.  A review of this video, which can be reached here, shows the cops who forced the man to stop may have taken two whacks at the guy as they attempted to handcuff him.  Police officers are trained to quickly get a suspect handcuffed and to use all force necessary to accomplish this task.  The video shows that this is exactly what took place.  The Howard County police chief shows he is a twit by giving a news reporter a comment prior to the review by investigators and a reader poll conducted by ABC 7 of its website readers show that 71 % of those responding believe the officers acted properly.   ABC 7 is a good operation but in this case, they get the NUMB NUTS AWARD.

Local espresso shack operator Mountain Mudd shuts
down while Starbucks profits drop 97%

A locally owned coffee shop on the go business operated by John and Jeri Jewell has shut down it's unique kiosk coffee shacks in Charlotte Hall, Leonardtown, Solomon's and Callaway.  Two remaining kiosks  in Lexington Park and California had been part of an effort to stay alive but are closed and the one shown above has vanished.
The business slowed down with consumers trying to save and eating out and treats like espresso is one of the first places that people have started. Other businesses in the area have closed and more are tottering on the edge as the recession takes a local and personal look.  The Federal Government didn't show up to bail out the Jewells, they have lost years of hard work and their investment.

Should killers be allowed to live instead of being put to death?  O'Malley cites cost of conducting capital punishment as reason to end the death penalty SUN REPORT:

Big tough gunman had on his fuzzy mittens during robbery

Now this is a fireboat, something that Solomon's could use due to it's habit of massive waterfront fires burning out of control.  This 85' fireboat is excess to the City of Baltimore and is up for auction with a current bid of $25,100.

This block in downtown Lexington Park was the object of the desire of the St. Mary's Commissioners to show off their real estate development skills. The commissioners used tax money to buy a one year option for one building and spent another $50,000 on the process, which failed.  A recent interest on the part of a drug chain has waned and the commissioners have simply wasted the money of the taxpayers.
