Police shut down Leonardtown Middle School
evacuate students every time there is a bomb threat...this was the scene last Friday when St. Mary's Sheriff's deputies had the school parking lot blocked off, as if the bomb threat maker was going to flee the premises or another bomb thrower was going to drive into the building with a Ryder truck... at some point, officials must come up with an appropriate response that doesn't reward the crank caller.George Klear

Hundreds March for Life on Rt. 235
A large demonstration for life and against abortion was conducted on Rt. 235 last week, with hundreds of people --- men, women and children --- carrying signs and symbols calling for respect for life.  The marchers lined the highway, actually lining the entire stretch of roadway from California to Lexington Park.

Who said this?

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
It wasn't President George W. Bush, even though this statement is a similar sentiment espoused by him since we were attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.  The quote is from President John F. Kennedy's inaugural address.

Boozing Driver Roars Past
Police At Over 100 MPH

HERMANVILLE --- A Ridge runner was drunk and driving like a madman early on Saturday morning as he blew past a Maryland State Trooper and then wiped out on Hermanville Road when he lost control on the winding and narrow back road. A Deputy couldn't keep up with the speeding but untalented driver who will never make it in Nascar.  Real race car drivers are sober.  The mental midget took out a mailbox and a few trees and then was handcuffed and jailed, leaving his poor old mom to have to deal with her grown son's abuse of her car.  Police report he was driving without a license, as his last one was taken away in another alcohol incident. Henry Robert Madjeski, III, 20, was charged with DWI by Deputy Connelly, according to Sgt. Gerald Johson of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department.

The Latest News
on DC Sniper Case

The federal Bureau of Justice Assistance has issued a 210-page report on the Washington (DC) area sniper shooting in Oct. 2002. The section on information tech and automation is highlited by the quote from Asst. Chief William O'Toole of the Montgomery County Police Department, "The sniper case started and ended with a call to 911." At one point, the report notes that The "1-800 Tip Line" was never completely integrated with the FBI's lead management system. "This
created considerable difficulties for tracking information during the investigation, including being able to identify which jurisdictions had leads and the progress they were making on them." The report outlines setting up calls centers and info systems, and provides an essential explanation of how to organize such investigations and
available federal resources. Download (pdf) a copy at:

CALIFORNIA, MD.  (Nov. 12) --- A former Giant Food employee attempted to rob a Chevy Chase bank employee loading an ATM in the Giant Food in First Colony, according to Maryland State Police Barrack Commander Lt. Brian Cedar.  An off-duty Fairfax County police officer  fired shots when he attempted to stop the bank robber and the robber then turned and aimed his weapon at the officer.  The officer missed and the crook fled. The crook skidded out of control on the wet roadway and crashed in a stormwater pond behind the Lowes hardware store across the street.  The getaway car was pulled from the pond and towed to Leonardtown for a crime lab examination.  St. Mary's Sheriff's deputies were on the scene first with Maryland State Troopers assisting.  More as this story develops and more in the print edition this weekend.....

Tipsy Mom Arrived to Pick Up Kid;
Arrested for DWI

First report is that no one is injured on Chancellors Run Road where a school bus hit a stopped state police cruiser.  Cpl. Chip Ewing reports that Trooper Evans was giving assistance to motorists who had wrecked at Norris Road and Chancellors Run Road in California, when a school bus came along and sideswiped the trooper's patrol car.   The car was still driveable.  When a mother came to pick up one of the kids who was in the first wreck, she was found to be drinking and blew a .25 on the portable breath test, meaning she was soused.   She was arrested and someone else had to come pick up the kid.

Smart Ass Black Bar Owner or Racist Deputy with a Cocky Attitude?
Those were the issues on the table at the St. Mary's Liquor Board hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 10th.  Read the story of what took place during several bar checks by St. Mary's deputies and behavior of bar owner Ken King. The liquor board voted 2-1 to revoke his license and fine him $1,000, one of the few times the board has cracked down on bars in recent years. King was either stupid and interfering with a deputy checking out a suspicious car in the bar parking lot or Deputy Charles Earle just had a chip on his shoulder, depending on who the board wanted to believe. They decided to believe the deputy.  King runs one of the few black bars in the county but white bars with more severe problems are never treated as severely.   Each week, as many as a dozen police cars show up for fights, stabbings, shootings, drug dealing and even a murder exactly one year ago at tthe Brass Rail Bar in Great Mills.   What sanctions are placed against the Brass Rail?  NONE.  Political honcho Dickie Gatton, owner of the hellhole bar in Great Mills  is pals with the powers that be and nothing ever happens to his bar but when a black bar owner shows his butt to police, he is put out of business.  Are the actions of the liquor board racist?  We report,  you decide.
