Two St. Mary's Men Charged After

Beating Man to Death Outside Bar

WALDORF ---  Oct. 30, 2008 --- Charles County Sheriff's press secretary The Charles County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is conducting an investigation into an assault that occurred early Saturday morning in which the victim, Joshua Matthew Gregor, 25, of La Plata, later died. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

On Oct. 25 at 2 a.m., the victim was in the parking lot of Don Savino’s Bar and Grill located at 2427 Crain Highway in Waldorf when he was approached by two suspects who struck him several times in the head. The victim fell to the ground and lost consciousness. He was flown to Prince George’s Hospital Center where he was admitted with life threatening injuries. The suspects, Justin Burch Ferrall, 30, and Brian Anthony Hickman, 28, both of St. Mary’s County, fled but were arrested a short distance away. Both men were charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. The victim was pronounced deceased by doctors at PGH on Oct. 27.

On today’s date, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore performed an autopsy and ruled the manner of death a homicide. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and a case review by the State’s Attorney’s Office.    

At this point in the investigation, it is not clear what happened during the initial contact between the victim and the suspects. No Free Hits on Girlfriend

MECHANICSVILLE — Police report that on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 12:33 pm, Ryan Andrew Murray, 23, of Mechanicsville was arrested by Tpr. M. Pitcher for Assault 2nd Degree. Tpr. Pitcher responded to the 41000 block of Alvey Stone Lane in Mechanicsville for the reported disturbance. Upon arrival, contact was made with the female victim, 18, of Mechanicsville, who advised she had been assaulted by Ryan Murray. During the course of the investigation both parties were interviewed and it was determined that Mr. Murray did assault the victim. Mr. Murray was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

Man Charged with Smacking Girlfriend While Drunk

HOLLYWOOD — State Police report that on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 1:34 pm, Tpr. G. Thompson responded to the 45000 Tippett Road in Hollywood for the reported Domestic Assault. Upon arrival, contact was made with the suspect, Michael Paul Ptaszynski, 32, of Hollywood and an odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath. He advised he was in a verbal argument with girlfriend. After interviewing both parties about the disturbance, Mr. Ptaszynski was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review.

Man Wins Cocaine Toss

LEXINGTON PARK — Maryland State Police report that on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 12:06 am, Vashon Lamar Hayden, 25, of Lexington Park was arrested by Cpl. A. Malaspina for possession of Cocaine and CDS paraphernalia. Cpl. Malaspina responded to the reported disturbance in the 46000 block of Lucca Way in Lexington Park. Upon arrival, Cpl. Malaspina stopped a black passenger car leaving the residence. Contact was made with the passenger,  Hayden. While Mr. Hayden was being interviewed outside of the vehicle, he was observed throwing two small plastic baggies of Cocaine. The Cocaine was recovered and Mr. Hayden was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.
