Suspect Identified in

PG Apartments Arsons

This sadistic bastard kept families awake at night wondering if their building would be next to burn.

GREENBELT (Oct. 4, 2007) ---- P. G. County investigators said on Wednesday that families in the Greenbelt community of Spring Hill Lake Apartments told them that they will be able to sleep better last night.

A suspect in the series of arson fires has been identified and is in custody of authorities.

There has been a months long ongoing joint investigation of approximately fifteen fires within the Springhill Lake Apartment Complex.

A series of suspicious fires started in early April 2007 with the most recent fire occurring in early August 2007.

No injuries occurred during these incidents and the combined estimated fire loss is $1 million.  As a result of a collaborative effort, a suspect has been identified and is currently being detained.

Jeremiah Christopher Jones, 25, with a last known address of 9168 Edmonston Road, Greenbelt, MD, was being held on Federal Arson Charges.

The Arson Workgroup headed by the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department Fire Investigations Office was assisted by the City of Greenbelt Police Department, the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

State and Federal Search Warrants were obtained and executed today at his apartment in the Springhill Lake Complex while the suspect was taken into custody and questioned by authorities.

The suspect is cooperating with officials and will be officially processed with Federal Arson Charges within the very near future.  However, the investigation does not stop here, the Investigative Workgroup will continue their work in identifying other crimes the suspect may have been involved in.
