Leonardtown Mayor's Race: Council Candidate Supports Norris; Blasts Homeless Shelter Manager for Slamming Planning Process To The Editor: I would like to respond to Mr. Lancaster's comments in the Enterprise on Wednesday calling the Town's planning "inept". As a member of the current Planning and Zoning Commission, there are at times when I have question's regarding certain project's. If that's the case, I take the time to meet with Town staff to answer those questions. If during the meeting the commission still isn't comfortable with the situation, we will table the decision, until further investigation is completed, and at times have asked a Professional Planner for guidance. I'm not sure what other measure's Mr. Lancaster would have us take.
Regarding the Tudor Hall Farm Development, Mr. Lancaster indicates "Everything was there to pull this deal together. It was the town that didn't make it happen. All the players were at the table, and the Town dropped the ball". I would like to refute those comments. As President of Leonardtown Recreation, Inc., the arm of the Town, responsible for the development of the Public portion of the project, it was the County Commissioners who pulled away from the table. Despite the County pulling out of the deal, we came close to providing this region with an Economic Development stimulus, unheard of, in this region of Maryland. As a matter of fact, the project is not dead. Due to the housing slowdown, it has been put on hold. The Town is in great shape, as it still owns the public lands, Free and Clear.
As a resident and business owner in Leonardtown I normally attend the Council meetings. If Mr. Lancaster had attended any meetings in the last 10 years, he may not be so misinformed.
