COAST GUARD
RESCUES TWO IN CHINCOTEAGUE BAY |
CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. - A 23-foot boat crew from Coast Guard
Station Chincoteague rescued two people from the water
after their canoe capsized in Chincoteague Bay Saturday.
Two boat crew members from Station Chincoteague
responded after a bystander from Chincoteague
Island called Coast Guard Sector Field Office Eastern
Shore, Va., to report the over turned canoe. After
arriving on scene, the boat crew rescued a woman from
Kentucky and a man from Maryland, and towed their canoe
to a dock just north of Chincoteague Swing Bridge.
"It is very important that you check the weather
and tides before you go out on the water," said Petty
Officer 3rd Class Will Lazenby, a machinery technician
with Station Chincoteague.
The Coast Guard reminds all mariners to be aware of
current and future weather conditions, wearing the
appropriate life jackets and letting someone know your
intentions while you are out on the water.

COAST GUARD RESCUES FOUR FROM SINKING HOUSEBOAT
|
| BALTIMORE (Sept.
30, 2007) - The Coast
Guard rescued four people from a sinking houseboat in the
Magothy River north of Annapolis, Md. on Saturday.
Rescued were Mark Hirsh, 46 of
Spring Grove, Pa., William Kuchta Sr., 60 of Baltimore, William
Kuchta Jr., 32 of Joppa, Md. and Tonya Rose, 31 of Joppa, Md.
The Coast Guard received a
call at 9:30 a.m. reporting a 41-foot houseboat taking on water.
A 25-foot response boat crew
from Coast Guard Station Annapolis arrived on scene and
rescued the four people aboard the houseboat.
There are no injuries and the
cause of boat taking on water was due to waves coming over the
flat bow. The owner of the vessel is working with Tow Boat U.S.
to salvage the vessel. All four people aboard were wearing life
jackets.
"Be aware of the weather and
know what your vessel is capable of sailing through," said Petty
Officer 2nd Class Brian Kernan, a member of Coast Guard Station
Annapolis. |
