Man threatened family with shotgun during argument, cops held at bay

On 02/22/2010 at 1744 hours, Troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department responded to 36273 Mill Point Road Maddox, Maryland for a reported disturbance.

Investigation revealed the suspect, Clarence E. Thompson, who lives at the residence, was intoxicated.  He became irate during an argument with family members and subsequently retrieved a shotgun and threatened several family members with the firearm.

Police say that family members were able to flee the residence and notify police.  After police made visual contact with the suspect, he refused to come out of the residence.

Over the course of the next three hours, police continued to attempt communication with the suspect with no response.  At 2045 hours the suspect voluntarily came out of the residence and was apprehended without incident.  The suspect was charged with one count of first and second degree assault and incarcerated in the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.  The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigation assumed the investigation and executed a search and seizure warrant at the residence recovering numerous firearms.
