DWI Driver Backed into Police Cruiser

COBB ISLAND (March 11, 2008)  Charles County Sheriff's spokesman Kristen Timko reports that on March 9 at 12:25 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Powell observed a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on Cobb Island Road in Cobb Island. She attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver proceeded to Piedmont Drive and pulled into a driveway. The driver realized he was in his neighbor’s driveway but when he attempted to back up, his vehicle struck Sgt. Powell’s police cruiser. There was no damage to either vehicle and no one was injured. Sgt. Powell determined the driver, John Gordon Paul, 50, of Cobb Island, was intoxicated and arrested him. Paul was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while intoxicated and driving the wrong direction on a one way road. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
