Death Walk

Man made threat of suicide before being struck on Rt. 4


PRINCE FREDERICK (March 9, 2009)  --- Police report that the man who walked onto Rt. 4 in front of a northbound vehicle and was killed had made a threat of suicide in a phone call to his wife prior to his death.

On Friday March 6 at approximately 10:17 p.m. members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to Md. Rt. 4 northbound and Plum Point Road for the report of a pedestrian struck. 

Upon arrival it was determined that the victim, John Russell Drinks, Sr., 46, of North Beach, was crossing Md. Rt. 4 when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound.  Drinks was pronounced dead on the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.  The driver, a 73-year-old woman from Owings, remained on the scene.  The investigation is on-going and being handled by DFC Christopher Childress of the Crash Reconstruction Unit.
