Charles
County
Sheriff’s
Office
Announces
New
Electronic
Display
at Mall
Office
A new
computer
display
at the
Charles
County
Sheriff’s
Office’s
St.
Charles
Towne
Center office is currently
showing
a
slide-show
of
offenders
wanted
for
child
support
violations.
The new
electronic
wanted
poster
system,
which
has been
installed
on a
desktop
computer
mounted
on a
portable
upright
cart, is
funded
by a
grant
from the
State of
Maryland
Department
of Human
Resources.
It is
part of
the
Child
Support
Enforcement
Unit’s
efforts
to
locate
wanted
persons
and to
encourage
wanted
persons
to turn
themselves
in.
The site
was
chosen
because
of the
high
number
of mall
patrons
but may
change
to
maximize
visibility.
The
Sheriff’s
Office
intends
to
operate
a second
system
in the
future.
“These
offenders
need to
fulfill
their
child
support
obligations
and we
are
making
every
effort
to
ensure
that
happens,”
said
Charles
County
Sheriff
Rex W.
Coffey.
“It is
important
not just
because
it is
the law,
but
because
the
children
who are
involved
suffer
when
those
obligations
are not
fulfilled.”
The
Sheriff’s
Office
is
asking
citizens
who know
the
whereabouts
of any
child
support
violator
to
contact
the
Child
Support
Enforcement
Unit at
301-932-3059
between
8 a.m.
and 4
p.m.
Monday-Friday
or
301-932-2222
during
all
other
hours.
Persons
wanted
for
child
support
violations
may also
contact
the
Child
Support
Enforcement
Unit to
turn
themselves
in.
The mall
office
is
located
on the
second
floor of
the
mall,
next to
Dick’s
Sporting
Goods.
