Teen dies from injuries in crash; speed blamed

EASTON (March 15, 2009) --- According to Talbot County Sheriff Dallas Pope, an Easton teenager died today from injuries he suffered in a wreck earlier this month.

Police report that on March 6, 2009 at 11:37 p.m., the Talbot County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to respond to the scene of personal injury accident that had occurred on Glebe Road near the intersection of Goldsborough Neck Road.  Upon arrival, the investigating Deputies observed a vehicle had left the roadway, collided with a tree and then became engulfed in flames.  Upon impact, the driver had been thrown free of the vehicle but had been seriously injured in the crash.  The investigation determined that the driver had been the sole occupant in the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Mr. Bennett Wayne Haley, 17, of Easton.  Mr. Haley was treated at the scene, stabilized, and then flown to the Trauma Center in Baltimore.

On March 15, 2009 the Talbot County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who stated that Mr. Haley had expired from the injuries and trauma that he had experienced in this crash.  His family and friends had faithfully been with him at the Trauma Center since the crash.

The investigation into this motor vehicle accident is continuing.  Preliminarily, factors of vehicle speed and driver error may have contributed to this accident.
