Man Killed in Failed Robbery

By Sean Rice
ST. MARY'S TODAY
LEXINGTON PARK (Feb. 27, 2007) - A 24-year-old white male was found shot to death early Tuesday morning in Lexington Park. Police say Kenneth James Walters was found dead in his car, parked outside his apartment on Liberty Street within St. Mary's Landing.
Lt. Rick Burris, commander of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations unit, told ST. MARY'S TODAY on the scene this morning that a neighbor discovered Walter's body, and as of this morning, no one has came to police who heard or saw the shooting take place.
Burris said Walter's family has been notified of the tragedy, but the detective declined to release any further details, including his place of employment or the number of times the man was shot.
ST. MARY'S TODAY has also learned that Walter was with his girlfriend this morning and she last saw him when he said goodbye and left to go to work.
The Sheriff's Office sent out a news release this afternoon, reporting the 24-year-old was found at 6:55 a.m. slumped over, partially out of the vehicle with a gun shot wound to the head.
Citizens with any information are asked to contact Lt. Burris at (301) 475-4200, ext. 1980.

$24 Million Lawsuit in St. Mary's Won't Hurt Pax

HOLLYWOOD (Feb. 1, 2007) - A record treasury-busting lawsuit seeking more than $24 million that has been filed against St. Mary's County will not affect the future plans or housing needs for Patuxent Naval Air Station, John Bohanan, Senior Advisor to Congressman Steny Hoyer tells ST. MARY'S TODAY.
The suit was filed by a developer claiming that the county landfill has leaked and contaminated a future housing site within First Colony that was under contract for Base housing.
