Fire Destroys Home

BRYANS ROAD (June 24, 2007) --- The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office reports that a fire which consumed a home in Bryans Road in Charles County at 11 am yesterday was caused by careless smoking.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Faron Taylor reported to ST. MARY’S TODAY that 23 firefighters from Bryans Road, Marbury, Accokeek and Potomac Heights brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes but not before it caused $100,000 in damage to the two-story wood frame house owned by the George L. Pigford family.

The home, located on Arbor Lane in Bryans Road, also suffered $50,000 in loss to the contents. There were no sprinklers in the home and it is unknown if the smoke alarms functioned.
