Postmaster Going Postal for Hoyer

This house does not belong to Stenny Hoyer.  It belongs to a hard  working business
CEO that was personally offended that his house may  now be targeted.  You should
retract that article and maybe offer a  formal appology to the owner for putting a
possible target on his   house for those who may be heated about the Health Care debates.
Just my opinion!

Dear Postmaster Bentley;
The next time you decide to venture into offering your opinion about a political matter, don't use a government email address.
If your pal is personally offended by the photo of his home being placed online, he
could have: 1. built something smaller than the Taj Majal. 2. Asked Hoyer to move his sign which greets folks to a place in front of his own home. 3. Asked Hoyer to change his views on Health Care to represent the people of this district, who do not agree with him.
Also, there is only one "n" in Steny.
As the Postmaster of Charlotte Hall, I note that you sent an email rather than write a letter, so when they come along and decide to close your one horse Post Office due to a lack of business, you can believe you contributed to that outcome.
We will issue a formal apology to the King of Siam who must be the rightful owner of the palace in the picture.
You can apologize for delivering the mail late and at a $8 billion deficit.
Thank you for your opinion.

My family is voting Democratic

I have been dismayed at some comments attacking  Congressman Hoyer.   For the longest time, he has supported the goals of  justice and fair play in our society, and America's vision of leadership of the world..  But, now our  Republican party has become an attack dog, rather then admit their terrible errors with George Bush.  These include the unnecessary lost of over 5000 of our brave servicemen and women in Iraq- a war based on lies and ignorance..  And in the process the Republicans let Bin Laden - the monster of 9/11 escape in Afghanistan.

The Republican party, my party for most of my life, has become a party  of  endless greed and dishonesty.  They also let Wall Street steal a trillion $$$  while our economy nearly collapsed.  And now are trying to to destroy Medicare which protects our parents from devastating medical costs in their final years.  As someone said recently, the republican medical plan for all of us  is "don't get sick, and if you do, die quickly.

Until the Republican party leadership admits their terrible mistakes, my entire family, and most of our friends are voting democratic.   America is supposed to be about its moral values - being a leader of the world, providing gainful  employment for all its citizens and leading the world into a brighter era.  Not our terrible economic and military situation which is the Republican's legacy.

To all the nay-sayers,

I suggest you go to HealthReform.gov and READ How Health Reform Will Benefit Maryland. Here you will READ that perhaps you are part of the 29% of Marylanders who have not had colorectal cancer screening, or you are 20% of Maryland women who have  never had a mammogram, or perhaps your children are part of the 21% of MD children who have never seen a dentist? or your child is one of the 14% who are clinically obese?  or you are 29% of the MD population who has high blood pressure?

Perhaps you are one of the 669,000 uninsured Marylanders?  Or one of the 436,000 Marylanders who are employed but are not insured?
If you have any of the existing conditions above ( as in a pre-existing condition) you will read that you are in grave danger of being dropped by your present insurance company. Or if you try to apply for insurance, you will be denied.

The insurance company CEO's are the ones with the million dollar, no billion dollar homes, and salaries to match:
They are the ones who don't care!  Here is what they made while denying many of us care.

 (1) United Health Care CEO, Stephen Hemsley made  $13.2 million in 2007 with a $3,241,042 compensation in 2008:  He owns a home in Minnesota valued at $6,640,000.
(2) CIGNA CEO, Edward Hanway, has a 5-year compensation as of April 30, 2008 worth $120.51 million and owns a New Jersey beach home worth $13,607,400.
(3) AETNA CEO, Ronald A. Williams received a $23 million compensation in 2007 and $24,300,112 in 2008.  He's ranked in the TOP TEN $100 Million CEO Club by Forbes.
(4) Allen Wise, CEO of Coventry, in addition to  owning millions of your dollars in stock options, owns a Hilton Head, SC home valued at $3,275,500.   This can all be verified on the Sick for Profit website.

To the nay sayers, please get informed.  Congress, especially Steny Hoyer, and President Obama are working to provide quality healthcare for ALL of us.  They are trying to ensure that the insurance industry is held accountable and that affordable care is available to all. They are committed to "reducing" our costs and "increasing" our access to health care.

A Great Legislator

As a newsman, I covered Steny Hoyer many years ago when he was president of the Maryland Senate. In decades of following his career, I have been impressed by the sound judgment flowing from his rational approach to issues. His Democratic colleagues have such great regard for him that he was elected the majority leader of the House of Representatives.

As a Democrat, Steny Hoyer seems always focused on the party's fundamental principle of serving the common good, which is essentially a partisan position in contrast with the Republican bent toward serving the people and interests that have the most.

Steny is a good man and a great legislator.

Hoyer works tirelessly on our behalf

Dear Constituents and Readers:

I would like to briefly and firmly express my support for Congressman Hoyer! Have you actually reviewed what this man has done for Southern Maryland, all of Maryland and the United States of America recently?

He works tirelessly on our behalf, represents all of our interests, devotes himself to the causes that impact us-some of which we do not even know!
Please, take a step back from the rhetoric of today's political environment, look at this man, and his record, and you will be thankful that we have such a devoted public servant on our side.
Thank you
AM Jones

Rhetoric should have meaning. Language should have value.

What then is meant by the phrase we are now hearing so often from the politico, "We have a moral obligation to pass this legislation"?
Morals must be based on some standard. Among the most frequent standards used as a basis for moral values are scripture, tradition, reason and experience.
Most of our government officials have totally rejected scripture. They have also rejected traditional values. When scrutinized, the legislation they are trying to pass does not hold to sound reason. And, when you compare the policies being put forth by those in power to the experience of history, you find that experience teaches that big government and total government control don’t produce anything good.
So, other than just being persuasive words, what value, what basis, do these so-called "moral obligations" have?
In recent decades, contrary to traditional values, we have been taught that when it comes to morals there are no absolutes. So why is the government that has propagated the educational system that teaches no absolutes telling us that we absolutely have a moral obligation to do what they are demanding?
Added to this reasoning without rationalization coming from our government, is the "duty" on our part to pay the bill for all their dictated moral obligations!
I guess my point is simple. Listening to our present leadership talk about moral obligations is about as logical as listening to Larry Flint and Hugh Hefner talk about chastity!

Does Steny Hoyer Represent Us?  Yes!

If you are a member of Maryland District 5, you can proudly  say yes....and he has been  representing you  faithfully for a very long time, since 1981. Yes,  Steny is the longest serving member of U. S. House of Representative in our State History. The people have continued to say, "Please represent us."      And before Steny  stepped on the floor of Congress, he walked into Maryland's Senate at the age of 27 in 1966.   By the time he was 35, his peers made him the youngest Senate President.   Do the math - from 1966 to 2009 .... 43 years of service to Marylanders!

Does he know the people of Maryland?  Does he know what we need?    Well, he has proven over those long years of  legislating and constituent service, that he knows how to get bills passed that will help  the citizens of District 5,  the people of Maryland ,  people of our whole country.  We know that his colleagues  in Congress appreciate the gifts of legislating that Steny possesses because they have elected him to be the majority leader in 2006 and in 2008.   He can  work with people on both sides of the aisle; bringing consensus on issues among people of different paradigms.  No wonder  the open-minded hold Steny in high regard.  He gets things done.

Do we appreciate talent?      With so many people becoming instant legislators,  with everyone having  bigger and better ideas how to proceed to solve complicated problems, with  air-waves being jammed with opinion makers and sharers, with shouts from  fear mongers, and puffed up egos, with liberals saying "not enough": and conservatives saying "too much",  do we understand the wisdom and courage  it takes to decide the best logical path out of the maze of opinions to valiantly  propose good legislation?     Do we value a  life-long dedication to that kind of legislative service for us - the people of Maryland?

If you say yes to those questions, then you too will value the work of our Congressman Steny Hoyer.  You will listen to his words with an open mind.   And be grateful.   I know that I am grateful. And I wish Congressman Steny Hoyer much success in his work - for I know in the end we will all benefit.
The more complicated the issue, the more I put my trust in the leadership of Steny Hoyer.

Not Steny's House
You and your reporters should of checked your facts before printing  that picture on
your front page of Steny Hoyer living like a  millionaire because that isn't his house!
I know because I live on  his street and his house is actually down further and is a
modest  home not like the one in the picture.
Just letting you know.
Marlene Labanowski

(Editor's Note:
Marlene, as you can see from the photo, Steny put his sign in front of his neighbor's house.  I'll bet your sign  is in front of your home.  Thanks for letting us know, we have already gotten a call from Steny's secretary and we will replace the photo of his neighbor's home with one of his.  Perhaps Steny's sign needs an arrow!
Therefore, you can be assured that this was not a case of not checking the facts, it was
case of not believing your lying eyes.
The following information is from the Maryland State Department of Assessment and Taxation, showing that Steny's home is not a "modest" one.)

I strongly support Majority Leader Hoyer

I strongly support Majority Leader Hoyer.  We are closer than we have ever been in my lifetime to achieving quality, affordable health care for all because of his outstanding leadership.  It is very easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize, as evidenced by comments listed.  So I would like to present a simple challenge to all who do: list 10 things you could do better to serve Maryland and our country in this important effort.
Before responding, please indicate when you actually READ every single page of the the bill that was passed in the House.

Hoyer follows Pelosi around like he's a puppy
Hoyer hasn't represented southern Maryland for years. Many years. He has turned into an elitist power hungry politician who votes like he was elected in San Francisco. He
follows Pelosi around like he's attached to her waist like a puppy. We are a family
oriented community of hard working folks who need to throw him out.
He doesn't care about how bad this bill is going to make our healthcare. He has a 100%
Cadillac insurance policy for LIFE. Why would he care? I'd love for just ONE demoncrat to
stand up and demand that Congress be forced to use the same healthcare they are providing
for the rest of us. Would it be the atrocity recently passed. I seriously doubt it. No.
Steny Hoyer, the man who voted for this healthcare bill as well as expanding legislation
aimed at criminalizing thought needs to be retired to live out the rest of his life in
his million dollar home. Bye Steny. You won't be missed.
 B. A. Butler

Hoyer and his friends are helping themselves

I do not and will not stand with or vote for Steny Hoyer in the next election or any other election.  Steny Hoyer and his friends are not standing up to fight for my family.  They are not doing anything to help this country.  They are helping themselves.
E. Snyder

I Support Steny Hoyer

Like the vast majority of national polls show  most Americans support the Democratic plan with the Public option.  I personally support it because it will reform the Health Insurance Industry, insure 30 million Americans currently with NO health care and according to the bi-partisan Congressional Budget Office the 1.03 trillion dollar plan will pay for itself.  As opposed to the Republican plan which will cost 61 billion dollars, never pay for itself, do nothing to reform the Health insurance industry and will increase the number of uninsured Americans to 50 million+.  The only tax increases called for in the Democratic bill are for large corporations and citizens who are millionaires (none - zero, zilch, nada for the middle class).  I don't feel sorry for CEOs or millionaires in the least when I see all the good people I know struggling to make ends meet.  Many of them have filed bankruptcy and lost their homes because they got sick.  Personally,  I could care less if every millionaire in the country got mad and left over it.  I say good riddance to anybody who waves a flag until tax day!  I pay mine and (contrary to Limbaugh's numbers) my 33% is still more of my paycheck than the 3% his attorneys whittle his down to.

The costs of health insurance is sky-rocketing and it's a relief to know that the Health Insurance Companies will start paying my claims and yours like they're supposed to AND their premiums will go down when they start fighting to stay in business because people will have Medicare Part "E" as an option, and government requirements to ensure consumers get a fair shake. That will force the monopolized insurance industry to lower it's rates and possibly even become competitive.  Just like the unspoken "threats" of a windfall profits tax and the opening of the national reserves of oil brought gas prices down from 4.00 a gallon to 1.80 a gallon nationwide when it was obvious we were electing Obama without any oil companies going out of business the intervention of the government in the health insurance price gouging will work out better for all of us.

You and I won't be paying for "Republican Health care" (people going to emergency rooms to be treated for things they should be seeing a doctor for, but can't afford to do so with no insurance and funerals for the ones who die without treatment) any more.   I think it's waaay past time we do what every other country in the free world did 50 years ago.

Hoyer: Not again will I support him!

Having supported Mr. Hoyer for as long as I have lived here and I am a Republican but…not again will I support him.  Having read the bills he has supported, the Czars he has voted for not again.  I have always voted for the person I thought would represent the people and not a follower the Mr. Hoyer has turned into.

Hoyer's Health Care Good for Maryland
I am proud to say Steny Hoyer represents all Marylanders as well as the rest of the country. His unwavering support for health care reform with a strong public option is good for Maryland and the nation. Anyone who believes different has probably been listening to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck,

Bill O'reilly and St. Mary's Today sad to say.
