HOLLYWOOD --- According to the St. Mary's Sheriff's Department, on October 19, 2009, Members of the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations Special Victim's Unit received information that Jacob Steven Traas, 24, of 24940 MAVERICK COURT Hollywood Maryland, engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a fifteen-year-old girl.
The investigation revealed Traas befriended the victim and knew the victim’s age. Traas engaged in a sexual relationship with victim. Detectives arrested Traas and charged him with third degree sex offense. Traas is incarcerated in the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he is being held on a $50,000.00 cash bond.
Traas in 2006 served a short stint on a 5 year prison sentence where he was locked up when he pleaded guilty to one of 18 counts of theft in Calvert County Circuit Court. Four years of his sentence was suspended and he was allowed by the court to be on unsupervised probation and to move to South Carolina.
Apparently he came back.
On July 18, 2007, he pleaded guilty in Charles County Circuit Court to another theft scheme. Even though he was on probation, he was jailed for only 180 days at the order of the Judge, and was allowed probation again.
Another theft conviction in St. Mary's County District Court in December of 2007 resulted in a jail sentence of 87 days. Even though he had been on probation, he was curiously given credit for time served.
Traas has a long record of driving without a license, with tags taken off of other vehicles, of driving without insurance, of driving without registering a vehicle and of failing to appear in court for any of these charges.
