Prince Georges County Cop Fills

Boyfriend with Lead, Kills Self

WALDORF (Jan. 28, 2008) ---  Charles County Sheriff's Maj. Joe Montminy reports to ST. MARY'S TODAY that a shooting at the home of a Prince George's County police officer was domestic related and that the person who the officer attempted to kill with a gun was still alive but the officer took her own life.   The shooting took place at 5802 Opaleye Court in the Dorchester neighborhood of St. Charles in Waldorf.  First reports were that the officer shot the man in the posterior, the hip and the shoulder.  Maryland State Police Trooper 2 Med-evac helicopter flew the bullet-ridden man to a trauma unit.  Police are on the scene with the body of the dead officer.  Police have confirmed the identity of the officer as Tora Coates, 38, who lives at that address and is a PG officer.
Sgt. Tora Coates was the sister of former Calvert County Sheriff Vonzell Ward and had been a spokeswoman for PG police and most recently was assigned to the Internal Affairs Unit for professional responsibility.  She was well regarded in police circles as being a top officer, according to FOP State President Rodney Bartlett.

WHITE PLAINS --- Charles County Sheriff's Officers report that on Jan. 13 at 1:40 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the parking lot of Rednecks Saloon and Grill located at 4680 Crain Highway in White Plains for the report of a fight. Upon arrival, officers observed a small crowd in the parking lot. The accused, later identified as Michael Francis Johnson, 29, of Waldorf, was acting disorderly, yelling obscenities and attempting to start a fight. When Officer J. Clagett attempted to intervene, Johnson struck Officer Clagett. Johnson continued acting aggressively and Officer Clagett subsequently deployed his taser, immediately immobilizing Johnson. Johnson was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

Russell's Conflict of Interest?

LEONARDTOWN ---
Board makes several important decisions regarding growth issues and one of them involved approving a smelly approval of sewer for vacant lots in direct conflict with the prior policy of not allowing sewer hookups for unimproved land to the Piney Point force main, a policy which has a checkered past of compliance.  Who's vote put this one over the top instead of letting it fail on a 2-2 vote, which was expected?  St. Mary's Commissioner President Jackie Russell, who works at the Seafarer's School.  The Union sold the land in question to the developer and Russell showed he is a dependable vote while at the same time he crows about his supposed "environmentalist" leanings.
St. Mary's Commissioners Larry Jarboe (R. Golden Beach) left, and Dan Raley (D. Great Mills) right.  ST. MARY'S TODAY photo

The vote to approve 5 lots to be hooked up to the public sewer was passed on a 3-2 vote, in yet another smelly story of St. Mary's County politics...of course, a story which traveled through a sewer vote...

Scrap Dealers Part of Criminal Food Chain?

Talbot County Sheriff Dallas Pope   ST. MARY'S TODAY photo

LEONARDTOWN  (Jan. 30, 2008) St. Mary's Sheriff Tim C
ameron supported an initiative by Talbot County Sheriff Dallas Pope with Maryland Sheriff's Association now pending before General Assembly to require scrap dealers to keep records of who sells them copper and other precious metals, much like pawn shop records which police often turn to in order to solve crimes.  After a rash of such thefts in this area, St. Mary's Sheriff Tim Cameron realized that his detectives often were coming up with blanks when trying to track down where large quantities of stolen copper may have gone and Sheriff Pope, President of the Maryland Sheriff's Association quickly consented to making the bill a legislative priority for the group. Sheriff Pope, a former Maryland State Police commander for the Southern Maryland region, obtained the support of the Maryland Sheriffs and other police agencies, which resulted in the bill now under consideration.

Boat Props Likely End Up at Scrap Metal Dealer
CHESAPEAKE BEACH --- Calvert Sheriff's officers report that a victim on East Chesapeake Beach Road advised Dep. Justin Livingston that unknown suspect(s) stole between 60 and 80 bronze and steel boat propellers and 30-40 shaft logs from outside of his home between January 25 and 26.  The property is valued at $1500. If you have information concerning the theft, please contact Dep. Livingston at 410-535-2800.

Obama Smackdown!

Politics of the Day
--- He was raised by his white mother and his white grandparents and only spent a short period of time with his black father when he was ten years old as the young "Barry" Obama grew up in a white world, but on Saturday, the 47-year-old senator from Illinois managed to win 78 percent of the vote of black South Carolina Democrats in his quest to beat former First Lady and Senator from New York, Hillary Clinton.   Clinton left the Palmetto state about an hour before the polls closed and was in Nashville hosting a huge rally of supporters for the Feb. 5th super Tuesday battle at which about half the states will make decisions.   MORE

Which way will Hoyer Go? (Jan. 28, 2008) --- Hoyer told ST. MARY'S TODAY that he has not yet made an endorsement.

Kathleen sticks to her guns on Hillary:

"I respect Caroline and Teddy's decision but I have made a different choice. While I admire Senator Obama greatly, I have known Hillary Clinton for over 25 years and have seen first hand how she gets results. As a woman, leader, and person of deep convictions, I believe Hillary Clinton would make the best possible choice for president. She shares so many of the concerns of my father. Hillary has spent a lifetime speaking out on behalf of the powerless and working to alleviate poverty, in our country and around the world. I have seen her work up close and know she will be a great President. At this moment when so much is at stake at home and overseas, I urge our fellow Americans to support Hillary Clinton. That is why my brother Bobby, my sister Kerry, and I are supporting Hillary Clinton." ---  Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend

Obama's middle name is "Hussein"

...even though reporters have debunked a popular internet rumor that he is actually a Muslim, his middle name reflects his birth, not his choice as a Christian.  Still, any voter can use any reason or even a foolish idea to help them make up their mind about who to vote for...but the incident where Obama refused to continue to wear an American flag pin in his lapel will only give fuel to the fire that this person who has been completely unknown to America until two years ago may not yet be revealing who he really is.  Hillary might be a real witch, but at least we know she is the wicked witch of the west, and, her middle name is not "Hussein".

T
he Tax Hell of St. Mary's County, Maryland

New Years quiet except for the real estate assessment tax hikes spread through much of the area as insane hikes in property taxes will result in new tax burdens on already beleaguered property owners...watch for a new demand on St. Mary's Board and other counties as well, to lower property tax rates to make up for the huge increases, not in tune with the market, to take effect.  Its the old shell game with the state officials raising assessments but saying that they aren't responsible, that the tax rates are set by the locals, but at the same time, the state guts funding streams to the local governments, forcing them to maintain the tax rate or even raise it.  What they both have in common, is that neither will consider cutting back on social programs or subsidies to corporate interests.   Property owners will likely flood the assessment office with appeals, a record number, all appeals have to be made by Feb. 11th.
With the new round of tax hikes passed by the Democrats in the Maryland General Assembly, along with the irrational tax increases mandated by the higher assessments, a groundswell of revolt may take place with Maryland possibly returning to the GOP in the next local elections, as well as the statewide, as in 1994 and 2002. Bimbo Stuck

Woman got her rear end stuck in chimney....why she was in the chimney is open to question...

At about 12:20 AM, Monday, December 31, 2007, Prince George’s County Public Safety Agencies were alerted to a subject trapped within a chimney.  Firefighters/Medics, the Fire/EMS Department’s Technical Rescue Team and Law Enforcement Officers arrived at a 2-story combined residence/commercial structure in the 4000 Block of Bladensburg Road.  A quick survey of the scene confirmed that a 19 year-old-female was stuck in a chimneystack in the area around the fireplace flu assembly.  Firefighters/Medics assessed the victim and determined that she was not in any immediate danger or medical distress.  With some quick thinking and ingenuity firefighters used teamwork and a unified incident command to rescue the victim.  One team of firefighters reconfigured the height of a stool and placed it inside the fireplace under the dangling feet of the victim to provide support and stayed in verbal contact with the victim.  Simultaneously, members of the Technical Rescue Team devised plans to free the victim.  The chimneystack was 2-stories tall, approximately 24-feet, and the victim was trapped 14 feet into the structure.  The Technical Rescue Team determined the exact location of the victim and with the assistance of additional firefighters safely removed a portion of the second floor wall and chiseled away the chimney structure directly above the victim’s head.   Just before 2:00 AM the opening was large enough for firefighters to reach into the chimneystack and pull the female to safety.  She was immediately evaluated by paramedics and as a precaution was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment.  Prince George’s County Fire Chief Lawrence H. Sedgwick, Jr., stated, “A safe and well-coordinated endeavor by the volunteer and career members of the Fire/EMS Department resulted in the successful rescue of a trapped victim from within a confined space and mitigated a potentially dangerous and precarious situation.”  The Prince George’s County Police Department was on the scene and will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Teen Dead, Again!

LEONARDTOWN (Jan. 22, 2008) --- Dead, that is the word from the St. Mary's Sheriff's Department about last night's crash on Maypole Road.  Driving a 1999 Chevy was a 17-year-old youth, apparently either speeding or simply unskilled at driving, as Maypole Road isn't that big a deal to navigate, at least not at the speed limit.  Dead at PG shock trauma where he was flown last night is Timothy J. Knox, 18, of White Plains.  Knox was the passenger in Knox's car. Charges are pending against the driver subject to the completion of the investigation by Cpl. Edward Evans.  Sgt. Steven Hall could not determine if alcohol was involved at this point.
The Knox vehicle hit a pole on Maypole Road, a half mile off of Rt. 5 just north of Leonardtown at about 11:35 pm Monday.  Fire and rescue units responded for a report of two persons trapped with one person unconscious, both subjects were reported to be critical and were flown to a trauma center by helicopter.

Will Hillary turn to O'Malley as Vice-President Candidate?

It was 1968 and Richard Nixon had won the GOP nomination for president, surpassing other candidates including Michigan Gov. George Romney, father of this year's GOP contender, Mitt Romney.  Also winning out over Nelson Rockefeller, Nixon picked an obscure Maryland Governor, Spiro "Ted" Agnew, who had beaten Democrat George P. Mahoney in the 1966 gubernatorial election.  Will Hillary Clinton attempt to balance out her older generation appeal with the youthful Martin O'Malley, who still picks up the guitar and plays with a rock band from time to time?  She is shown with O'Malley in this photo getting his endorsement last spring.

Is Senator Obama a Muslim?  This report debunks a popular item traveling on the internet which falsely claims the presidential candidate is a Muslim and that he refused to be sworn in with a Bible and instead chose the Koran.   This actually is a pretty good insight into the entire religion slam on Obama.
