Second Arrest Made in Armed Carjacking

LA PLATA (Jan. 2, 2008) --- The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has identified the second suspect involved in an armed carjacking in La Plata on Dec. 27.

Major Crimes Unit detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Delante Jerome Arrington, 17, of Washington, D.C., on Dec. 29, charging him as an adult with armed carjacking and other felonies. The warrant will be served once Arrington is released from a facility in another jurisdiction, where he is being held as a juvenile for an unrelated incident.

The investigation began on Dec. 27 at 4:45 a.m., when Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Dash In located at 6305 Crain Highway in La Plata for the report of the armed carjacking. Investigation revealed two male suspects approached a 46-year-old Hughesville woman, brandished a handgun and demanded her property. The suspects then stole her vehicle and fled the scene.

Officers found the vehicle and attempted to stop it but the suspects fled at a high rate of speed. The suspects did not stop until shortly after three of the vehicle’s tires were deflated by stop sticks. Both suspects fled on foot into the woods.

Sheriff’s officers, a K9 team and a Maryland State Police helicopter searched the area and located one of the suspects, the passenger, Dujuan Terez Hailstocks, 19, of Washington, D.C. Hailstocks was arrested charged with armed robbery, armed carjacking, first-degree assault, theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. The weapon was also recovered in the area where the suspects fled.

Detectives continued the investigation and identified the driver of the vehicle as Arrington. Det. J. Elliott investigated.

Man Captured While On Way Back to DC after Armed Carjacking

WALDORF ---  Charles Sheriff's officers report that on Dec. 27 at 4:45 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Dash In located at 6305 Crain Highway in La Plata for the report of an armed carjacking. Investigation revealed two male suspects drove to the store in a Honda Odyssey minivan, which officers discovered was stolen from Montgomery County. One suspect approached a 46-year-old Hughesville woman, who drove up in a Toyota Avalon, brandished a handgun and demanded her property. The victim gave her purse to the gunman and then surrendered her keys after he demanded them. The gunman got in the driver’s seat of the Avalon and the other suspect got into the passenger seat and they fled the scene. The victim ran into the store, called 9-1-1 and the Sheriff’s Office was notified.

A lookout was broadcast for the vehicle and it was located traveling north on Crain Highway near Plaza Drive in Waldorf. One officer initiated a traffic stop but the suspects fled at a high rate of speed. Three other officers set up stop sticks on Route 301 at the county line. As the suspects crossed the county line, the stop sticks deflated three of the vehicle’s tires. The chase continued at a lower rate of speed until the suspects stopped in the 15000 block of Crain Highway. Both suspects fled on foot into the woods.

Sheriff’s officers, a K9 team and a Maryland State Police helicopter searched the area and located one of the suspects. The passenger, Dujuan Terez Hailstocks, 19, of Washington, D.C., was apprehended. Hailstocks was charged with armed robbery, armed carjacking, first-degree assault, theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He is being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center. The weapon was also recovered in the nearby area where the suspects fled.

Officers are still searching for the driver of the vehicle. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-609-6515, 301-932-2222 or Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Det. J. Elliott is investigating.
