Man With Shotgun Cleaned
Out Laundromat
SOLOMON'S ISLAND --- Calvert Sheriff's and State Police
detectives report that on May 10, 2008 at approximately 1829
hours, Deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded
to the Solomon's Coin Laundry located at 13954 Solomon's Island
Road for a report of a robbery. Once there, an employee of the
establishment advised that a man displayed a shotgun and
demanded money. After giving the suspect a small amount of
money, the suspect demanded more. The employee began to yell
that he was being robbed and the suspect fled the
establishment. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a
grey pick-up truck operated by a black male. A look-out was
then broadcast.
While traveling south on Maryland Route 4, Sgt.
Kenneth Gregory observed a vehicle matching the description
traveling north near Flag Pond Park. While turning around,
Sergeant Gregory lost sight of the vehicle, however, it was
located and stopped minutes later. It was then determined to be
driven by a different person than when it was first seen by
Deputy Gregory. An interview with the driver revealed that the
vehicle was operated by fifty-year-old Michael Duane Rogers of
Lusby during the time of the robbery. Rogers was located at his
residence and was transported to Solomon's Coin Laundry where he
was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed
him. Mr. Rogers was placed under arrest and transported to the
Calvert County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with Armed
Robbery, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless
Endangerment, Theft Under $100.00 and Carrying a Dangerous
Weapon with Intent to Injure.
Mr. Rogers is currently being held at the Calvert
County Detention Center without bond.
