March Madness Snowstorm

March is roaring in like a lion!


No school in St. Mary's for Monday March 2nd and likely not for anywhere else nearby....

  

 March Madness  (March 2, 2009) This late winter storm has already dumped almost 6 inches of snow on parts of St. Mary's as Southern Maryland is forecast to be in the bulls eye of a storm racing up the east coast.  This St. Mary's County Public Works road plow follows a tractor clearing roads in Medley's Neck.

EMERGENCY SHELTER NOW OPEN AT GREAT MILLS HIGH
If you can read this, you have power and can stay home...if you can't read this, you need to know this information but you  can't get it...oh well....we tried to tell you....
As a result of the extended power outages from the Winter Storm affecting Southern Maryland, Great Mills High School will be opening as an Emergency Shelter at 4:00pm on Monday, March 02, 2009.
Pets can be brought to the shelters. Animal Control will be able to shelter pets outside of the Schools. Please remember to bring food for your pet.
Please stay tuned to your local radio and television stations for further updates and warnings from the National Weather Service and St Mary’s County Government.
Please see the following list of items you should consider bringing to the shelter.
o Be sure to bring food if you require special diet foods, as food may not be readily available at the Shelter.
o Infant formula/food/diapers.
o Medical equipment—wheelchair, glasses, dentures, eye care supplies etc.
o Please bring your prescription medications. Prescription medications will not be supplied in shelters, you must bring your own.
o Sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, folding chairs. Bedding is not provided in public shelters.
o Personal hygiene items and changes of clothing.
o Entertainment items—cards, games, etc.

SMECO outages hitting Leonardtown, Lusby and Mechanicsville the hardest with nearly 9378 customers out throughout Southern Maryland...check this SMECO outage map for details on whether or not you have power...just in case you can't tell the TV and the lights are off...but if you can read this you might be running your laptop off a battery with an air card or your phone line still works....stay home....

--- Liquor store hit in La Plata, window smashed, booze stolen and the thieves took off for a big night of driving and drinking in the snow...perhaps they will skid into a pole...or a tree...police are on the lookout....
