The annual Elementary Mathematics Challenge Competition,
co-sponsored by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative,
for fourth and fifth grade students, was held at
Leonardtown Middle School on Saturday, April 14, 2007.
Eighteen elementary schools (14 public and 4 nonpublic)
sent a team of seven fourth graders and a team of seven
fifth graders to compete. The competition consists of a
team portion where members collaborate to answer five
multiple step mathematics problems. The next portion is
an individual test consisting of 40 multiple-choice
questions. The scores of the top five finishers from
each school are combined to make the individual school
total. The individual school total is combined with the
team score to make the final school team score.
