LUSBY
---- A serious wreck on Rt. 4 at Rousby
Hall Road left police scrambling to find two
people who fled from a Mercedes with Virginia
tags KBX 2963. More as this story
develops....why would these two persons have ran
into nearby woods with a Maryland State Police
helicopter hot on their trail? Open
alcohol containers were found inside the
Mercedes.
Calvert Sheriff Mike Evans told ST. MARYS TODAY
that his officers believe that the reason for
the men fleeing could be centered around drugs
and this aspect is under investigation.
"We have one of the suspects at the hospital now
being treated for his injuries from the wreck,
which are not believed to be life-threatening,"
said Sheriff Evans. "The people in the
other vehicle which was hit by the Mercedes were
not seriously injured. We have quite a few
witnesses."
Sheriff Evans said that the two men being sought
were described as black males.
Calvert Sheriff's
officers reported later that on January 21 at
3:51 in the afternoon, a silver 2002 Mercedes
heading northbound on Md. Rt. 4 in Lusby failed
to stop at a red light at Rousby Hall Road,
striking a green 2004 Toyota Tundra which then
struck a traffic utility pole. The Mercedes
then came to a stop and the driver and 2
passengers fled on foot running towards the
Lusby Commons shopping center. Members of the
Calvert County Sheriff’s Office made contact
with one of the subjects, identified as Gabriel
L. Holloway, 40 of Sunderland, in the shopping
center. At the time, Holloway told police he
had not been driving the vehicle and did not
know the name of the person who was. Holloway
was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital for
treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
He was released from the hospital shortly after
treatment. The 2 passengers were not located.
The owner of the Mercedes phoned police later
that day and advised that she had just received
a call from Holloway telling her he had been
involved in a motor vehicle crash with her car.
The owner stated that Holloway did not have
permission to use her vehicle.
The two occupants of the
Toyota Tundra, Gregory Johnson, 37 and
Christopher Johnson, 14, both of Lusby, were
taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of
injuries sustained in the crash. Charges are
pending against Holloway for unauthorized use of
a motor vehicle and hindering the accident
investigation.
