St. Mary's Sheriff's Posses Chase Prostitutes, Drug Dealers into Jail

In December of 2007 Vice Narcotics Detectives began making numerous purchases of controlled dangerous substances through various means. This investigation continued until the first week of May 2008. Drug Traffickers were identified through the course of investigations and citizen complaints. The objective of the three (3) day pro active law enforcement efforts (Operation Spring Cleaning) is to utilize multiple resources, manpower and tactics to enforce violations that contribute to neighborhood decay. First and foremost was the enforcement of controlled dangerous substance laws.

Members of the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations Vice Narcotics Division have recently completed a five month investigation that targeted several high profile drug traffickers.

Beginning May 8th and continuing for three consecutive days, the operation consisted of arrest warrants being served, 13 Search and Seizure Warrants were executed, a prostitution operation, undercover street purchase operations, sex offender compliance, DWI saturation patrol, quality of life crimes and other forms of enforcement.

Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Vice Narcotics Division, in conjunction with the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, were assisted by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Team, Sheriff's Office Patrol Deputies, Sheriff’s Office K-9 and other members of the Special Operations Division (SOD), Vice Narcotics Support Team members, Detectives from BCI Criminal Division, Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division, HIDTA Detectives (DEA), Naval Criminal Investigative Services Investigators (NCIS), Officers from Parole and Probation, Special Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) (Annapolis Field Office and the Innocent Images Task Force) and members of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Of special significance was the assistance of the Maryland State Police Drug Enforcement Bureau and the Maryland State Police La Plata Barracks, according to Lt. Daniel Alioto, commander of the joint Vice and Narcotics Investigation Team composed of the St. Mary's Sheriff's Department and the Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police.
"The MSP units were fantastic in their assistance and the individual troopers from the various units involved are phenomenal in their dedication and diligence," Lt. Alioto told ST. MARY'S TODAY.  "We would never be able to muster the manpower to put on such an operation by ourselves and the recent slot machine investigations and the crime involved with those infusions of illegal gambling had already overtaxed our resources, so the ability to bring in these resources to assist us was vital."
