PEDESTRIAN KILLED ON MARYLAND ROUTE 2-4

Huntingtown, MD: On Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at approximately 6:15 AM, a pedestrian was struck and killed on MD Rt. 2-4 near the Gas Shop Convenience Store, Huntingtown, Calvert County, Maryland. Initial investigation has determined that Ronnie Lee Holland (54 of Huntingtown, MD) was on foot attempting to cross MD Rt. 2-4. David M. Bowen (45 of Huntingtown, MD) was operating a 2008 Pontiac sedan and was traveling north on MD Rt. 2-4 in the right lane approaching the area of the Gas Shop. Bowen struck something in the road which became lodged in the windshield. He immediately brought his vehicle to a controlled stop in the Gas Shop’s parking lot and called 9-1-1. He determined that the object he struck was Mr. Holland. Mr. Holland was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. Personnel from the Maryland State Police and Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate the crash, preserve the scene and assist with traffic control.

Northbound MD Rt. 2-4 was closed from 6:20 AM to 9:25AM to facilitate the investigation. With the assistance of the State Highway Administration, northbound traffic was diverted either onto southbound MD Rt. 2-4 for approximately 1/3 of a mile or behind the Gas Shop Store to ease the traffic congestion caused by the temporary road closure.

Any individual who may have witnessed this tragic crash is urged to call the Maryland State Police. Please contact Lieutenant H. R. Rich, Sergeant S. M. Breck or Trooper K. M. Donaldson (410/535-1400 or 301/855-1975).
