Get a load of this one...the pompous and politically correct

Emptyprize, owned by the Washington Post company, ran an

racist ad for a local bar  which featured "Pimps & Ho's Party"

Great family entertainment!  Why not advertise for Ho's on the front page?  Is The Emptyprize becoming a tabloid and going to shed the old dull and boring image now that readers are turning to ST. MARY'S TODAY in ever greater numbers?  Has the Emptyprize found that "Ho's" sell papers and despite their image of building bridges to the African-American community, let Redneck bars like this one run a blatantly racist ad on their back page on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007! Wow Batman, say it ain't so!   Are nappy headed Ho's allowed at this redneck bar?  Will the pompous editor of the Emptyprize be fired for this racist ad being published?  All of the politically correct went after Don Imus for his "Ho's" remark, what about this guy, Rick Boyd, the editor, who we featured on a milk carton some years ago and no one knew who he was.  Does the buck stop with him or will those brave guys fire some young girl for selling the ad while the honchos cover for each other. Last week the Emptyprize ran a headline about "rumors of guns at Great Mills High School" while condemning 'a local tabloid' for running rumors of arson at St. Mary's College, where Post Vice President Ben Bradlee is on the Board of Trustees.  Will the big wigs at the Post, who slobber over what everyone else does, notice this racist act on the part of their local subsidiary?  Only The Shadow knows for sure!

Bank customer robbed at PNC in LP City in broad daylight

LEXINGTON PARK --- Another day in Lexington Park, another robbery at a bank:  some of the older bank branches would be able to help their customers by providing better camera shots to police with newer camera systems instead of relying on the antique systems they have in place.  This latest robbery at a Lexington Park bank occurred at the PNC bank, which used to be the Mercantile Bank of Southern Maryland, which used to be the First National Bank of St. Mary's and about 40 years ago used to be Horton's Dodge dealership.  It's the bank on Great Mills Road next to the rescue squad building.  Other customer robberies have taken place at the ATM and night drop of this bank at night, when lighitng was dimmer than it is now.  Today's robbery took place about 2 pm in broad daylight.  K-9 officers were brought in but did not find a track.  The aboundance of bums, prostitutes, crackheads and other colorful pedestrians on Great Mills Road use the liquor store as their gathering place and cause destruction in the beautiful churchyard of the Church of the Ascension, 2 doors down from the bank.

Norris and Mattingly briefed the Comptroller on the progress of the town over the past ten years.  While the session was underway, the new three story hotel nearby was making remarkable progress.  The hotel has an exterior consistent with Fredericksburg or Williamsburg instead of a modern decor.

LEONARDTOWN --- Comptroller Peter Franchot started Monday off at the ground breaking of the new Evergreen Elementary School and went on to meet with officials in various locations the rest of the day, spending part of the day learning about the Leonardtown success story with Leonardtown Mayor J. Harry "Chip" Norris and Councilman J. McGuire Mattingly III.
In an interview, the Comptroller warned the General Assembly to not do too much changing to the state's fiscal structure.
"The less the better," said Comptroller Peter Franchot, "We have a lot at stake and the regular session allows for committee hearings and a structured process to keep us from making mistakes and I hope they would allow the regular legislative process to conduct any major changes in our tax structure."        MORE

Leonardtown (Oct. 24, 2007)
UPDATE! Police were seeking a youth who had a gun, a light skinned black male, 17 yrs of age, who was being sought in a gunplay incident on Stephen Young Lane in Leonardtown.  A caller to 911 asked for help, that a man with a gun was threatening to kill a person in the home.  One person being sought was in need of serious medical attention. This guy reportedly had been worked over pretty good by three men with baseball bats, just in time for the World Series, Batter Up! Tons of Sand and Gravel Leave St. Mary's each day, completely untaxed

Working the Potomac -- The work tug Night Heron regularly plies the waters of Breton Bay and the Potomac River with barges coming and going from the Maryland Rock gravel mines.  The company has been mining gravel on a temporary permit for 30 years in the Medley's Neck area shipping sand and gravel from St. Mary's County to locations up and down the east coast.  As state and local governments search for alternatives to raising taxes, they could consider enacting a tonnage extraction tax on sand and gravel much like is imposed on other non-renewable natural resources.

Danger lurks at open intersections along Rt. 235/Rt.5 Corridor

Left, a wreck which killed former St. Mary's Commissioner President J. Wilmer Bowles took place when Bowles failed to judge the speed of a southbound driver on Rt. 235 as he attempted to pull out of the Bean Medical Center to proceed north on Rt. 235 in Hollywood. Next, the photo showing congestion at the Rt. 5 and Rt. 231 intersection has simply moved down the road to Charlotte Hall, where another bypass can be built, and then again at New Market, and then at Mechanicsville and then at Hollywood... or perhaps the illustrious leaders of Maryland will get behind Sen. Roy Dyson's plan for commuter rail service to Southern Maryland and to Lexington Park.  Last year Gov. Martin O'Malley campaigned on doing exactly that but two weeks ago his transportation plan left out commuter rail.   ST. MARY'S TODAY photos

Chocolate Lt. Gov. Brown kicks off Abortion 'Evening of Chocolate Gala'

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown

( Editor's Note: if former Lt. Gov. Mike Steele had gone to a chocolate gala when he held the office, would the liberal press made a big to-do about him being the first black statewide official to attend a chocolate event?  References to the 'Uncle Tom' Republican Steele by liberal Democrats and their puppy dog media pals like the Washington Post were constant as he is an effective conservative spokesman and Democrats think all blacks should think alike because of their color but nobody ever notes Brown's race or that he too is a chocolate kind of guy. Indeed, Brown is the 2nd statewide elected official of color in Maryland, proving nobody ever got noted for coming in 2nd.  Brown, like Steele is a smart guy who expresses his views in an articulate way and both work hard and have a good future.  Steele lost a race for US Senate to Boring Ben Cardin last year and remains a talking head on news shows.)

Brown gave the keynote address at the 18th annual Evening of Chocolate Gala for NARAL, Saturday, in RockvilleThis black-tie optional evening is Maryland’s premiere pro-choice event of the year, attended by more than 400 of Maryland’s leading abortionists and elected officials who support them.  Brown's staff sent this statement on Friday announcing his speech: "The event includes a delicious array of chocolate desserts donated by the regions finest pro-choice chefs, and a silent auction where guests bid on a wide range of products, services, and luxury items donated by local businesses and individuals."

Antonio Warren Gantt ---  Wanted Dead or Alive

That would be what the poster would read were this Dodge City...
it is legal to shoot a robber but not too many bank tellers are armed...however it is perfectly acceptable for store owners to shoot and it is important for gangsters who rob stores to understand that they can be be blown away, especially if there is a sign in the store which reads "We don't call 911" over a gun.  Criminals need to understand that others have rights too...

This bank camera obviously is guilty of racial profiling.

LEXINGTON PARK (Sept. 27) UPDATE ON L P CITY BANK HEIST.....maybe not dead but he's wanted anyway for the robbery of Maryland Bank & Trust in Lexington Park, this St. Leonard resident allegedly robbed the bank on Monday afternoon about 2 pm and beat feet in the direction of Raley's Furniture.  Gantt, 40, of St. Leonard, often stays at different households in St. Mary's, according to St. Mary's Sheriff Tim Cameron.  Police paid a visit to his Calvert County residence without any luck on Tuesday night and several businesses in St. Mary's have contacted police to ID him.  While in prison, court records show that he has sued a variety of state officials including Calvert Circuit Court Judge Warren Krug, perhaps for simply having the same name.
Gantt has had a full-time job in dealing with the court system in that he has been attempting to overturn a 1993 forgery and burglary convictions in St. Mary's Circuit Court through a series of attorneys with the latest one, Shane Mattingly, of Leonardtown, withdrawing from his case just last month, one of at least four attorney's to represent Gantt since 2001.
Gantt may have wanted to get enough money from the bank to hire one of those big city lawyers who could show these local ambulance chasers a thing or two. While in the Maryland State Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Gantt was charged with assault on a prison guard and was found guilty, but in the process, Gantt must have been visiting the prison library as he filed motions through half the members of the Allegheny County bar association as well as the public defender.
Why did Gantt allegedly rob this bank (we say allegedly as a black man walking past the scene of the bank robbery, who looked a lot like Gantt, said to ST. MARY'S TODAY, "WHAT HAPPENED, DID SOMEONE ROB THE BANK?"  When told that was what happened, he said, "THEY'LL PROBABLY TRY TO BLAME A BLACK MAN".  The man, carrying a gym bag, continued on foot down Shangri-La Drive in the direction of the townhouses across from Bay District firehouse.), it has not yet been proven that Gantt is the man in the photo, it just looks a lot like him, according to those how know him.   Gantt may simply be lonely for a return trip to the prison and misses the excellent law library.  Robbing a bank is a handy way to get a free bus ticket back to the joint.

The man who sauntered past the bank, looked like Gantt, making this story even more bizarre if that was him doubling back to watch the cops show up.

"The College and the trustees treat the public in a haughty and dictatorial way."

Fleet Blessed in Potomac

COLTON'S POINT (Oct. 8, 2007) --- After a slow Saturday for crowds at the annual Blessing of the Fleet, a sparkling afternoon led to a large crowd of pleasure boats and an occasional workboat coming out in force on Saturday night to the Potomac River where one of the finest displays of fireworks witnessed by fans of any age was put on from a barge in the river.  What Saturday lacked in attendees, was made up for on Sunday when people swarmed to the Potomac River Museum at Colton's Point and a constant shuttle of vessels carried thousands out to St. Clements Island so they could see the newly built lighthouse and see the cross which marks the site of the landing of the settlers from England on March 24, 1634 as well as the first Catholic Mass in the English colonies was said by Father Andrew White.  The oyster buyboat Samuel M. Bailey brought a Catholic priest out to bless the crew of the Maryland Dove and then blessed sailboats, cabin cruisers, jet skis, speed boats and a few work boats which circled through the channel between the mainland and the island.

This section of the old US Navy railroad right of way may one day be used again for rail traffic, if Sen. Roy Dyson (D. St. Mary's, Calvert, Charles) has his way.  Today, the section near the Wal-Mart at California, is being used for a bike trail for a short stretch where black topping will accommodate bicyclists, ATV and dirt bike traffic along with occasional hikers, who presently already have a sidewalk from Rt. 4 to the main gate of NAS with few walkers on it. Another section of a bike trail is being built in the Charlotte Hall area.  St. Mary's County owns the right of way and in past years has allowed many easements across the right of way in spite of a MDOT feasibility study which warned against degrading the value of the right of way for future rail use by granting easements to cross it.
St. Mary's County remains unable to come to a decision on building FDR Blvd, but a section of road which could connect it was built by the Wal-Mart to connect it to the Laurel Glen Shopping Center.
At right, is a mile marker on this same railroad right of way in Charlotte Hall near the Veterans Home.

The guy on the left in this fishing party is President George W. Bush with a crowd from ESPN fishing on the Chesapeake Bay near St. Michael's on the Eastern Shore.  Note this boat from Virginia had to come to Maryland to find the best fishing. The Coast Guard assisted in providing a security zone around the president.  The President visited with Congressman Wayne Gilchrest, who is in a heated GOP primary race this coming year and the Prez was on hand to issue an Executive order protecting Red Drum and Rockfish from over fishing.

Top Cop Nails Bank Robber in Halloween Heist

EXCLUSIVE REPORT:
Sprayed gasoline on bank tellers; threatened to torch them

Happy to Help Halloween Horror Story End with a Smile!

This brazen bank robber got the same bank again on Halloween in what could have been a horrific result had he set fire to the tellers.  Left Gantt is being led into the Sheriff's headquarters for questioning by St. Mary's Deputy First Class Stephen Myers and Dfc. Patrick Handy.  ST. MARY'S TODAY photo; center is the bank photo of Antonio Gantt, as he posed for the cameras in the bank making one wonder if he just wanted to get back to prison for "three hots and a cot". Right is Capt. John Horne who was happy to help Gantt meet his destiny of a decade in prison unless some bozo judge lets him out on probation.  This man terrified the bank tellers by spraying them with gas and threatening to set them on fire.

Man Stabbed to Death When Gang of Thugs Showed Up

Police make quick arrest of alleged killer

Career gangster at such a young age faces the death penalty
--- Christopher Doran Whisman

BROOME'S ISLAND (Sept. 27, 2007) --- The second murder in a week in the normally peaceful Calvert County ended in an arrest by Calvert detectives from the joint team of the State Police and Calvert Sheriff's Department.  Police report that at about 9:28 pm on Tuesday, officers responded to Ball Road for a stabbing. Rodney Gray Jr. 20, was the stabbing victim, say police.  Gray was likely dead on the scene but was taken to PG Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Med-Evac helicopter and was pronounced dead shortly after landing.

Witnesses told  police that a green 1998 Ford Explorer fled the scene in an unknown direction. Per witness statements obtained on the scene and further investigation it was determined that the 1998 Ford Explorer was occupied by 5 individuals to include Christopher Whisman, 21 years old from Broomes Island; Whisman was said to be in possession of a knife. When patrolling for the suspect vehicle, officers observed 5 individuals exiting the wood line near the intersection of Broomes Island Road and Hance Road.

The subjects entered a vehicle that was waiting for them.  A traffic stop was made on the vehicle they entered and all the occupants were transported to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
Investigators learned that the occupants of the Explorer had gone to the Ball Road residence to settle a dispute when the physical altercation irrupted.
Due to witness statements given by the individuals involved in the altercation, Christopher Doran Whisman was charged with Second Degree Murder, First and Second Degree Assault, and carrying a Dangerous Weapon.  Whisman was transported to Calvert County Detention center to await a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.   The lead investigator in this case is Det. V. Bortchevsky.
Whisman, a white male resident of Broome's Island, has a long criminal record reaching back years and has spent time in prison for burglary and theft, but instead of serving a sentence of 7 years was let out of prison after only 18 months.  He was charged with various charges for an incident this summer when he allegedly provided booze to kids, committed assault, resisted arrest and interfered with an arrest, all of which come up in court in October.

Bus driver's gas pedal stuck

CALIFORNIA --- A report from another bus driver about the school bus wreck this morning at the intersection of Rt. 235 and Chancellors Run Road reveals that the bus driver had just finished dropping off her students at Green Holly School on Millstone Landing Road and was turning from Rt. 235 onto Chancellors Run when her gas pedal stuck with her bus then vaulting across the median strip, over a curb and into the Sheetz gas station where the bus hit a pump.  The manager of the Sheetz quickly cut off the pumps and Bay District Volunteers were on the scene in minutes.  The bus driver was injured but no kids were on board, however some children may have been nearby and gathered to watch the scene, causing an early report from fire and rescue to indicate that there were students on the bus when there actually were not.

Soldier from St. Mary's Says Troops Believe in Their Mission to Bring Liberty to Iraq

My view of the war is a little different then most. I have been on active duty since I graduated from Chopticon HS in 1988. I am currently in Al Asad Air Base Iraq. This is my second deployment. I, like every single member of our armed forces, was not drafted. We chose to join. We knew that by joining the military there was a possibility of having to go to war. And those that have joined since 2003 that we are at war and this where we will be sent eventually.
We as a country continue to talk about how we need to care and defend people around the world but if we were to pick up and leave now all of those Iraq's that voted (stained thumb) a few years ago would all be sent to their deaths.
As a conquering nation we have a responsibility to the people. WE cannot leave them defenseless. WE would be condemning them to death. The insurgents we are fighting are mostly non-Iraqis. They don't want us to succeed. They want to turn Iraq in to a graveyard. We cannot let that happen. Yes we do miss our families but we believe we are staying here and fighting for the right reasons. The American people would be surprised and proud at how many of their service members do actually believe in the mission we are doing over here.
