WALDORF --- The Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s Financial Crimes Unit reports that it has arrested a woman in connection with a theft scheme and detectives are seeking additional information from the public about her accomplices.
Monique Danteha Logan, 22, of no fixed address, was charged on Jan. 11 with two counts of committing a theft scheme valued at more than $500, eight counts of committing a theft scheme valued at less than $500, identity fraud, credit card fraud and theft valued at more than $500. Between December 2007 and January 2008, Logan and the accomplices stole purses, wallets and credit cards from workers in office buildings throughout Charles County.
Police say they used the victims’ credit cards at retailers in Charles and Prince George’s counties and in Washington, D.C., to purchase items including gift cards, clothes and video game systems. Detectives believe at least three other people may be involved. The Sheriff’s Office has released a photograph obtained from one of the stores where the stolen credit cards were being used. It shows one of the accomplices, a man, in the store. The photograph may be viewed on the Sheriff’s Office’s Web site, www.ccso.us.
Logan is being held at the Charles County Detention Center, now giving her a fixed address, on a $10,000 bond. Anyone with information about the accomplices is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office’s Financial Crimes Unit at 301-609-6507. Det. R. Cadrette is investigating.
Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about that leads to additional arrests or indictments in this investigation. Anyone with information may contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. All callers remain anonymous.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens to always keep purses, wallets and other personal items closely guarded or to lock them in a safe location if they must be left unattended.
