 Drug Dealing Nets Up to 20 Years for Cocaine Cockroaches

The St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney and the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations Vice Narcotics Division announce the following recent drug case dispositions.

Michael Anthony Reed Sr. was sentenced to 20 years to the Department of Corrections for Distribution of Cocaine.

Chad Cameron Gass was sentenced to five (5) years to the Department of Corrections for Distribution of Cocaine. That charge will run consecutive to any other sentence.

Thomas Evans- pled guilty to Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute and a related Handgun Violation. He is a subsequent offender and is awaiting sentencing.

Skylar Sanders-was convicted of Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute and a handgun violation. He is a subsequent offender and is currently awaiting sentencing.

Daniel Alan Faucette- was sentenced to 18 months St. Mary’s County Detention Center for Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana.

Christopher Somers Ireland- sentenced to three (3) years Department of Corrections suspended to 18 months St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

John Edward Colleary- pled guilty to Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute. He is a subsequent offender and is awaiting sentencing.

Timothy Wayne Brooks
18 - 24 years pending for dealing cocaine.

Timothy Wayne Brooks- was found guilty of Distribution of Cocaine in one case and pled guilty to a second indictment for Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute. His State guidelines are 18-24 years in prison.

John Columbus Courtney- pled guilty to Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute and is a subsequent offender. He is awaiting sentencing.

Vice Narcotics Detectives and the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office will continue to work together in the pursuit of arresting and prosecuting drug traffickers in St. Mary’s County.

Smoking Dope Makes for Slow Runner

WALDORF — On May 6, 2008, at approximately 1845 hours, Trooper W. Posey was on routine patrol on northbound U.S. Route 301, north of Maryland Route 228 when he observed a disabled vehicle. Upon his arrival and contact with the vehicle he smelled the odor of marijuana. Trooper Posey was contact by one of the occupants and was advised that they were having car trouble and the other occupants were at Checkers restaurant waiting for help to arrive. A vehicle arrived at Checkers to pick up the occupants. Trooper Posey asked the Charles County Sheriff Deputy to detain the occupants. When the Sheriff Deputy approached one of the occupants, attempted to flee the scene. The subject Jermaine Devon Thomas, 28 years, of Hughesville, MD was taken to the ground, suspected marijuana fell from his pocket and he was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance schedule I and II, to wit: Marijuana and crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Car Thieves Dreaded Capture

WALDORF — Charles Sheriff’s officers report that on May 5 at 10:04 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer J. Walter observed a Ford truck speeding on Smallwood Drive near Stone Avenue in Waldorf. He attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to comply. As the officer pursued the truck, police communications officers advised it had been reported stolen through the Prince George’s County Police Department. The truck turned onto Keepsake Place where it struck a small tree. The occupants fled the vehicle on foot but left the truck in drive. The truck continued moving until it struck a mailbox. Officers, including a K9 team, searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects. The suspects were described as two black males with dreadlocks. They were wearing blue jeans and white polo shirts with red or pink stripes. Man Mugged at Mall Movies

WALDORF — Getting mugged at the box office with pricey tickets isn’t the only way to get robbed at St. Charles Mall. Police report that on May 5 at 9:24 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the AMC Loews movie theater located at 11115 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of a strong-arm robbery. The investigation revealed an 18-year-old Waldorf man was walking through the parking lot when two suspects approached him, assaulted him and stole his money. The suspects fled the scene in a silver mid-1990s passenger car with black fenders. The suspects are described as black males in their early 20s. One suspect is between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, has dreadlocks and was wearing a black jacket with a red spider on the upper back. The other suspect is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing dark clothing. The victim sustained minor injuries. Cops Nail Midnight Building Supply Bandit

WALDORF — The Charles County Sheriff’s detectives say that they have served an arrest warrant for the man responsible for a series of kitchen appliance thefts in March from homes under construction in Waldorf.

Eugene West Ford, 44, of no fixed address was charged on April 29 with three counts each of first-degree burglary, theft of property valued at more than $500 and destruction of property valued at less than $500. Ford is currently being held at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections on unrelated charges.

The first theft was reported on Mon., March 24 at 7:32 a.m. after workers discovered someone had forced entry into a home under construction in the 2400 block of Sedgeland Court sometime over the weekend and had stolen kitchen appliances. Sometime between 5 that night and 9:15 the next morning, the second theft of kitchen appliances occurred in the 3400 block of Halford Street. The last theft occurred between 7 p.m. March 25 and 9 a.m. March 26 in the 8700 block of Bancroft Drive. The stolen appliances included stainless steel refrigerators, ovens, microwaves and dishwashers.

Early on April 9, the Prince George’s County Police Department arrested the occupants of a vehicle suspected of being involved in similar incidents in Prince George’s County. Although the suspects in that investigation were not involved in the Charles County thefts, detectives obtained information leading to the identity of Ford as the suspect in Charles County. Charles and Prince George’s County detectives worked cooperatively and as a result, Charles County detectives obtained the warrant for Ford’s arrest on April 24. Det. J. Austin investigated.

Whacky Tobaccy Makes for Weaving Driver

CHAPTICO — State Police say that the weaves, ducks and twists and turns by a driver caught the attention of a trooper. On Monday, May 5, 2008 at 4:58 pm, William Melvin Barbour, 47, of Chaptico was arrested by TFC P. Trossbach for possession of Marijuana and CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Barbour was operating a red Toyota Corolla when he was stopped for failing to drive in a single lane on Route 238 north of Stoney Hill Road in Chaptico. TFC Trossbach made contact with the driver, Mr. Barbour and a strong odor of burnt Marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, Mr. Barbour was found to be in possession of a CDS smoking device containing Marijuana. Mr. Barbour was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

Cocaine at Enterprise

LEXINGTON PARK — State Police report that on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 11:13 am, James Price, 46, of Lexington Park was arrested by Tpr. M. Adams for possession of Cocaine and CDS paraphernalia. Tpr. M. Adams was attempting to serve a Grand Jury Indictment on Mr. Price at his residence on Enterprise Drive in Lexington Park. Mr. Price was located and taken into custody as a result of the Grand Jury Indictment. A search incident to the arrest revealed Mr. Price had a CDS smoking device with Cocaine on his person. Mr. Price was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond review.

 

Packing Heat

WALDORF — On April 25 at 1:03 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer W. Halt conducted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf for speeding. Officer J. Long arrived on the scene and observed a loaded handgun magazine inside the vehicle in plain view. A subsequent search revealed the driver, Johnathan Jerrard Gilliard, 29, of Rosamond, Calif., had a handgun in his vehicle. Officers also determined Gilliard was intoxicated. Gilliard was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while intoxicated, having a handgun in his vehicle and speeding. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

Ivan Has Anger Management Problem

WALDORF — Police report that o n April 24 at 11:42 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer J. A. Riffle was patrolling the parking lot of Hard Times Café located at 1120 Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf when he observed Ivan Atanasov Tyanev, 20, of Waldorf attempt to use a metal baseball bat to assault a 27-year-old Waldorf man. The officer disarmed Tyanev and arrested him. Tyanev was charged with first- and second-degree assault and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

Subway Right Way for Black Bandit, Dressed in Black

WALDORF — On April 24 at 9:53 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the Pinefield Subway restaurant located at 2112 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of an armed robbery. The investigation revealed a male suspect entered the business, approached an employee at the cash register, brandished a handgun and demanded money. The employee complied and the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect is described as a black male wearing black clothing and black shoes. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777 or Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Det. DC Bozos Know Better Than To Go To Charles County Jail

La PLATA —— Police report that on April 24 at 5:33 p.m., Officer J. Johnson stopped a Suzuki passenger car on Route 301 near Billingsley Road in White Plains for driving recklessly and using the shoulder of the road to pass other cars. When Officer Johnson approached the vehicle, the driver sped away northbound on Route 301. The driver continued to use the shoulder of the road to pass other vehicles and his vehicle struck another during his attempt to flee. No one was injured in the crash. The Suzuki eventually stopped in a parking lot in the 3300 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf and the driver exited the vehicle. Officer Johnson and Trooper Quade of the Maryland State Police attempted to arrest the driver but he resisted. He was eventually arrested and found to be in possession of marijuana. He was identified as Jerol Jerome Turner, 35, of Washington, D.C., and was charged with possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and numerous traffic offenses including negligent driving, reckless driving, driving off the roadway while passing and failure to remain at the scene of a crash. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

 Trip to Key West for Cops to Retrieve Wanted Woman

LA PLATA — Police report that on April 10, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office received information indicating Bessie Jean Wilhoit, 53, who was wanted for felony theft, was living in Key West, Fla. The Sheriff’s Office contacted the Key West Police Department and officers there located Wilhoit at her residence and arrested her without incident. She was held at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center until April 24, when members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s Warrant/Fugitive Unit responded there and extradited her back to Maryland. She is being held at the Charles County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.

Tom Tom Worth Much Wampum, Swiped from Vehicle

PRINCE FREDERICK — A victim advised Dep. Michael Mudd that her vehicles rear passenger window had been smashed in while it was parked at the Super 8 Motel on Commerce Lane in Prince Frederick overnight between April 22 and 23. A Tom-Tom GPS navigation unit, valued at $450, was taken. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dep. Mudd at 410-535-2800.

Crack Makes Patrice Think Better

PRINCE FREDERICK — Police report that Dep. Michael Mudd investigated a call for a suspicious vehicle containing persons possibly using controlled dangerous substances in the Yardley Hills neighborhood in Prince Frederick on April 23 at 3:44 p.m. Dep. Mudd contacted the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Patrice J. Claude Sidney, 20 of Prince Frederick, and found him to be in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, cigar remnants. He was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Calvert Won’t Run Out of Pot Heads Anytime Soon

ST. LEONARD — A 16-year-old male from St. Leonard was charged on a youth report with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after it was found in his vehicle by Dep. Aaron Locke on April 24 at 5:15 p.m. Dep. Locke investigated a call for a suspicious vehicle on Avenue D and Bayview Ave in St. Leonard and observed three juvenile males returning to the vehicle from the beach. After questioning, the driver of the vehicle admitted the suspected marijuana was his. The other two juveniles, both 17-year-old males, one from Prince Frederick and the other from Port Republic, were not charged.

Bozo scammed tip jar

DUNKIRK — Employees of Maggie Moos Ice Cream Parlor in Dunkirk observed a juvenile customer remove money from a tip jar on April 25 at about 7:25 p.m. DFC Michael Naecker responded and subsequently charged a 17-year-old male from Huntingtown on a youth report with theft. He was released to a parent.

Pot in Calvert County, Say it Ain't So

SOLOMONS ISLAND —- Police report that Dep. Aaron Locke conducted a check on a vehicle in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn located in Solomons on April 26 at 10:45 p.m. The occupants were found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. Bonnie N. Philips, 21 of Maple Grove, Pa. and a 17-year-old male from Crofton were both charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The juvenile was charged on a youth report and released to a parent.

Pot Heads Were Smoking Peace Pipe

LUSBY —- According to police, Dep. Andrew Clas investigated a bonfire on the beach on Cove Lake Drive in Lusby on April 26 at 10:18 p.m. Six individuals were observed by him to be on the beach sitting around a bonfire. One of the subjects, later identified as Nicholas A. Byshem, 18 of Lusby, was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, a metal pipe and a glass pipe.

He was arrested and charged.

Ricky Cracked Crack and He Don’t Care

LUSBY — Calvert Sheriffs deputies report that Dep. Aaron Locke arrested Ricky L. Mackall, 24, of Huntingtown and Charles E. Simmons, 21 of Lusby, and charged them each with possession of crack cocaine and possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, a White Owl blunt cigar, numerous zip-lock baggies used to package drugs, and a Pepsi can punctured with holes. Dep. Locke initially stopped to give roadside assistance to Simmons vehicle as it was parked on the side of H.G. Trueman Road.

Indian Head woman killed in single car wreck

WALDORF --- Maryland State Police report that on May 1st at about 10:57 am, Emergency Medical Services and Troopers from the La Plata Barrack responded to Westbound Maryland Route 228 at Bunker Hill Road for a reported serious motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival the investigation revealed a single vehicle was traveling westbound at the above location. The driver failed to drive within a single lane, and struck a metal utility pole. The driver was pronounced deceased on the scene. Speed is considered a factor, investigation continues. The family members of the deceased were notified. Trooper Sorenson is continuing the investigation.

Slash, Cut and Chase Caps Party Fun for Fighting Rednecks


 

BRYANS ROAD — Police report that on April 30 at 1:44 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Empress Place in Bryans Road for a citizen’s report of unknown trouble. Investigation revealed Paul Daniel Panholzer, 24, of Mechanicsville and the victim, a 25-year-old Bryans Road man, were attending a party when Panholzer approached the victim and began a fight. Panholzer retrieved a knife from his truck, cut the victim and chased him with the knife before fleeing the scene in his truck. Officers arrived on the scene and broadcast a lookout for Panholzer. Officer R. Cuyler observed the Panholzer’s truck traveling on Route 228 near Western Parkway in Waldorf and conducted a stop. Panholzer was arrested without incident. Panholzer and the victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Panholzer was charged with first-degree assault and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

Good Humor Man Crashed and Banged Escaping from Cops in Ice Cream Truck

LA PLATA — Police report that the spring shoplifting season has begun. On April 29 at 9:45 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the CVS located at 6260 Crain Highway in La Plata for the report of a shoplifting. A lookout for the suspects’ vehicle, a Good Humor ice cream truck, was broadcast. Officer D. Benthin located the vehicle traveling north in the 2800 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf. He conducted a traffic stop but after stopping, the suspects sped northbound on Crain Highway and failed to stop for officers. As officers pursued the suspects’ vehicle, it struck a Chevrolet Avalanche. Officers quickly apprehended the occupants of the ice cream truck in the vehicle and identified them as Wesley Leon Jumper, 36, of Washington, D.C., and Shawn Carnell Stewart, 36, of Capitol Heights. The driver of the Avalanche, Edward Patrick Malloy, 54, of Temple Hills, and his passengers, William Paul Washington, Jr., 65, of Temple Hills and Ricardo Walter Alexander, 27, of Washington, D.C., sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and were transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center for treatment. Jumper and Stewart refused medical treatment and were charged with theft valued at more than $500. Stewart, who was driving the ice cream truck, was also charged with reckless driving, aggressive driving and fleeing and eluding police. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending appearances before a district court commissioner. Inside the truck, officers found more than $500 of toiletries that had been stolen from the CVS. Officer C. Stufft investigated.

No Bopping the Cops

WALDORF — Police report that on April 29, the United State Marshal’s Service located and arrested Kevin Edward Barnes, 39, in Winchester, Va. Barnes had been wanted by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office since October 2007 for assaulting officers during a police pursuit, child support violations and failing to appear in court for a second-degree assault charge. The arrest was the result of a joint investigation between the Sheriff’s Office and the Marshal’s Service and began after the Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip through Charles County Crime Solvers. Barnes has been returned to Charles County has was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending a court appearance.
