Southern Maryland Police Briefs

Drunk, Disorderly and Injured

SOLOMONS ISLAND — Police report that Cpl. Thomas Phelps responded to a call for an intoxicated person in the roadway in the 14000 block of Solomons Island Road on Solomons Island July 4 at 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, Cpl. Phelps observed a white male lying in the grass just off the sidewalk. Phelps detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from him. The male, later identified as Kevin D. Hutchings, 46 of Clinton, Missouri, was suffering from injuries to his knees and face. Phelps called for an ambulance and while waiting, Hutchings became disorderly, yelling profanities. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently transported to the detention center.

Speeder Nabbed on Stolen Bike

PORT REPUBLIC — According to police reports, on July 4 at about 8:00 p.m., Dep. Moises Velasquez responded to Parkers Creek Road in Port Republic for a traffic complaint involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival he noticed a red motorcycle traveling west at a high rate of speed. He made contact with the driver, later identified as Delano O. Gray, Jr., 22 of Port Republic. Velasquez discovered that the motorcycle had previously been reported stolen in Pasadena. Gray was arrested for motor vehicle theft and driving while suspended.

Juveniles Steal Go-Kart, 4-Wheeler

LUSBY — Police report that two fifteen-year-old males from Lusby were charged with theft on youth reports after a victim on Rousby Hall Road reported his go-kart and 4-wheeler stolen. The two youths admitted their involvement to Dep. Mark Robshaw after one of them was observed near the stolen items on Barreda Blvd. in Lusby on July 5 at about 5:30 p.m. Robshaw made contact with the other juvenile at his home. The stolen items, totaling $2400 in value, were returned to the property owner. The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents.

Drive-By Gas Can Theft

OWINGS — According to police reports, a five gallon gas can filled with gas was stolen from a home on Lower Marlboro Road in Owings on July 6 at 1:00 in the afternoon. Dep. Brianne Gray responded and took a report from the homeowner who advised that the gas can had been in her garage. She heard a vehicle outside of her home and then discovered the can, valued at $15, missing.

Percocet Arrest

PRINCE FREDERICK — Police report that Dep. Thomas Rickard conducted a traffic stop in the Calvert Village Shopping Center on Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick on July 7 at 5:13 p.m. The driver, later identified as Terence L. Chase, 22 of Huntingtown, was found to be driving on a suspended license. A search of Chase and his vehicle incident to arrest revealed suspected percocet pills, a schedule II drug. He was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license and possession of CDS.

Fugitive Discovered After Parking in Handicapped Spot

GREAT MILLS —Police report that on July 05 SDFC MIchael D. Peacher observed a vehicle parked in a handicap parking space, at the Great Mills Wawa. The vehicle was not displaying handicap registration plate or placard. SDFC Peacher contacted the driver, and identified him as Charles Brandon Kier, a twenty four year old black male, from Charlottesville, Va. A check was conducted, and Suspect Kier was found to be a fugitive from justice. He had three active felony warrants, and one active misdemeanor warrant in the state of Virginia. SDFC Peacher placed suspect, Kier under arrest, and transported him to the St May’s County Detention Center where he was charged for being a fugitive from justice, and was given a citation for parking in a handicap parking space. He is currently waiting extradition to Virginia.

Juvenile Car Thief Caught Red Handed

BRYANS ROAD —Police report that on July 10 at 3:05 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the report of a stolen vehicle. Shortly after the lookout was given, Officer M. O’Shields observed the vehicle traveling east on Marshall Hall Road in Bryans Road. Officer O’Shields and Officer D. Almassy conducted a stop on the vehicle in the 3000 block of Livingston Road and arrested the driver without incident. Investigation revealed the driver had stolen another vehicle earlier that night from the Lancaster neighborhood in Waldorf. Both vehicles were recovered. The accused, a 16-year-old Waldorf boy, was transported to Cheltenham Youth Facility. Officer M. Tyner investigated.

Reward for Pipe Bandit Who Robbed Manager

WALDORF — According to police reports on July 9 at 9:54 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Pizza Hut located at 3400 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf for the report of a robbery. Investigation revealed a male suspect approached the store manager as he was getting in his car with the store’s bank deposits. The suspect demanded the money and struck the manager on the arm with a metal pipe. The manager complied and fled back into the store. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and was wearing a stocking cap with a white bandana across his face. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Det. B. Buchanan at 301-609-6477. Information may also be provided to Charles County Crime Solvers by calling 1-866-411-TIPS. Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment.
