To the Editor:
I want to bring to light the importance of
sprinklers in newly developed homes. It has
come to pass that a county ordinance might
not pass because of individuals worrying
more about upfront costs then about saving
lives as well as years of memories within a
home.
As you well know a fire is devastating to a
family, especially in times where every
penny counts. Upfront costs to install a
sprinkler system in newly developed homes
seems expensive, but with that said what
cost can you put
on a family that has been left homeless.
This is not new technology since it has been
around for years. We take for granted that
when we walk into department stores or
office buildings that we take for granted
that a sprinkler system is installed.
It is kinda like auto insurance or
homeowners insurance. We grumble at having
to pay it, but are thankful that it is there
when we need it.
Please urge our community members to take
into consideration that a sprinkler system
thought it may be costly at first will
ensure that our emergency responders are
kept safe and that homeowners will have
peace of mind that if a fire starts in a
home because of a careless smoker or
children plying with matches a fire will be
put out.
Put out because of a sprinkler system.
Certain construction firms are against
putting in sprinkler systems because it is a
burden on them to have individuals trained
to install sprinkler systems. Why does it
take the unthinkable when a family has to
die in order for something to change.
Can't it be proactive? At what cost is the
safety of a family?
Common sense would rule for installing the
sprinkler systems and ensuring that
the future of our community families will be
safe guarded against disaster.
It is crucial for our community to
understand that foremost installing
sprinklers in newly developed home will be
an investment that if needed
will ensure minimal damage and loss.
Our volunteer force will not depend on the
passing of the ordinance to have sprinkler
systems installed. They will just add it up
to doing their job with one less tool to
use.
Thank you and I hope this will be printed in
our local St. Mary's Today both
online and the newspaper’s print edition.
