Thief preyed on cripple picking up

 prescription from pharmacy

PRINCE FREDERICK ---  Police report that a Chesapeake Beach man targeted a crippled person walking with a limp into the Calvert Memorial hospital pharmacy as easy prey for the theft of possible pain medication.

Calvert Sheriff’s officers say that on Tuesday, March 10 at 7:08 p.m., a victim at the pharmacy of Calvert Memorial Hospital advised Dep. Justin Livingston that an unknown suspect had just stolen his black bag containing money and prescription drugs.

Witness accounts verified that a suspect grabbed the victim’s bag, ran out the door and left the area in a vehicle traveling northbound on Md. Rt. 4.

Dep. Ricardo Hawkins observed the suspect vehicle on Plum Point Road.  The vehicle turned into a driveway on Bayside Road and the suspect ran around the side of the house.  Dep. Hawkins approached the suspect for questioning.

The victim’s black bag was located with the suspect. Dep. Hawkins arrested Edward Condit Beall, 31 of Chesapeake Beach and charged him with theft over $500.

Beall indicated that he observed the victim, who walked with a limp, enter the pharmacy and drop off a prescription.  Beall admitted he suffers from back pain and assumed the prescription was for pain medication.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to take precautions when filling medical prescriptions and be aware of who is around you at the time.

Report suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1 or your local law enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office at 410-535-2800 or the Maryland State Police Barrack “U” at 410-535-1400.
