Shotgun robber hits once more

MECHANICSVILLE (Dec. 1, 2008)  Bedeviling St. Mary's State Police and Sheriff's detectives who likely were still in their warm beds snoring and snoozing, an armed robber has struck again in early morning hours last week.

Police report that on Wednesday, 11/26/08 at approximately 4:30 am, an unknown suspect entered the Mechanicsville Burchmart, brandishing a long gun and demanded money from the employees, who were in the process of opening the store.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’07”- 5”08”, wearing a camouflage hooded jacket, light blue denim jeans, dark colored boots, and a ski mask. The employees complied with the suspect’s demands.

The suspect then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. St. Mary’s County Sheriff and Maryland State Police patrol officers were assisted by a Charles Sheriff’s office K-9 Unit in conducting an extensive search of the area but the suspect was not located.

The robber also hit the 7-11 store just a few hundred feet away two weeks earlier and fled towards the Wawa, which he has not hit yet.

St. Mary’s County BCI detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information on this crime to call them at (301) 475-4200 extension 1954 or Crime Solvers at (301) 475-3333.
