ROBBERY PREVENTION SEMINARS

To help combat a recent spike in robberies and to prevent robberies during the holiday season, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office will host three robbery prevention seminars this November for citizens and businesses in Charles County.

The seminars will be held Nov. 15 and Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Waldorf Jaycees Community Center located at 3090 Crain Highway. Criminal Investigations detectives will offer advice for citizens about how to prevent robberies and will also explain a new initiative developed to help business employees identify potential criminals.

The initiative involves businesses displaying security notices at their entrances that advise patrons to remove hats, hoods, headgear and sunglasses before entering the business. Store employees will closely watch any patrons who do not comply with the request, which is bad news for criminals who don’t want to draw attention to themselves, what they are wearing or anything else in a suspect description. The seminar will also help citizens better understand the purpose of the security notices as they shop in Charles County.

The seminars are free and registration is not required.
