An Old Favorite in New Hands
Blue Heron Bed & Breakfast Under New Care
SOLOMONS, Md. - October 27, 2006 -
The Blue Heron Inn, a Bed & Breakfast in historic
Solomons, Md., is in the care of a new set of hands
- those of an aspiring young chef and her husband,
Amanda and Chris Comer. The new innkeepers
are planning a host of exciting enhancements for the
Blue Heron Inn's old world charm.
This Solomons' landmark is a delightful
Charleston Colonial located directly on the harbor
offering sunrise views over Back Creek, Mill Creek,
the Narrows and the Swash. With two balcony suites
and two dormer rooms, all with private baths, the
Blue Heron Inn offers guests a chance to get away
from it all, surrounded by luxurious accommodations
and breathtaking views.
Amanda and Chris are thrilled to carry
on the tradition of personalized hospitality for
which the Blue Heron Inn has been known. Amanda,
serving as chef and hostess, has a background in
boutique hotel management, and is a graduate of the
Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park , N.Y. ,
and Le Cordon Bleu in Paris . Her passion for great
food and superb hospitality is evident in her
enthusiasm for her new job as innkeeper. "Through
our offerings and surroundings, we look forward to
celebrating the rich, local abundance of Southern
Maryland in a peaceful, elegant and relaxing
waterfront bed and breakfast," she said.
Using a philosophy of "inspired
hospitality, individually tailored," the Comers take
pride in their ability to personalize each guest's
experience at the Inn . "It may be a private dinner
on the balcony, a picnic on the lawn, or an
amuse bouche
and a glass of wine at sunset before a stroll down
the boardwalk," said Chris. "From a welcome of
chocolate covered strawberries and rose petals, to a
quiet evening in front of the fireplace with a hot
cup of tea, we will spoil our guests with the
blessings of Calvert County 's Solomons Island ."
Amanda's culinary style, which she
calls, "elbows-on-the-table-gourmet," describes her
ability to respect the seasonality of food and
the traditions of a region, while infusing it with
creativity and an at-home comfort. "More than
anything," she says, "food should be fun, especially
when enjoyed with friends and family in a
comfortable space."
Among some of the
couple's future plans are culinary getaway packages,
cooking lessons and specially
tailored dinners, picnics and afternoon teas . The
Blue Heron Inn is also available for small private
meetings, weddings and family reunions. For more
