Curtains for Jerome: Shot to
death while driving on East Capitol Street
| At approximately 12:01 am, on
Saturday, October 2, 2004, Jerome Humphrey, age 24, of the 3800 block of Halloway
Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was operating a vehicle traveling eastbound on East
Capitol Street, NE, with two other people inside. While approaching the intersection of
East Capitol Street and Central Avenue, NE, a gold-colored vehicle reportedly drove
alongside the eastbound vehicle and fired several shots, striking Mr. Humphrey. After the
shooting, the victims vehicle collided with a telephone pole, subsequently ejecting
one of the passengers. As a result of the collision, both passengers in the eastbound vehicle were transported to area hospitals in stable condition. Their names are being withheld because they are considered witnesses in this case. Mr. Humphrey was pronounced dead on the scene by a member of the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The case is under investigation by members of the Metropolitan Police Departments Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
