Armed Robbery at Burchmart and other police beat news
WALDORF-- On Nov. 15 at 11:46 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Burchmart located at 10195B Berry Road in Waldorf for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed the suspect approached the counter, brandished a handgun and demanded money. When the employee, a 30-year-old Mechanicsville woman, opened the cash register, the suspect reached over and grabbed the money from the drawer. The suspect then fled on foot toward McDaniel Road. The suspect is described as a light-complexioned black male, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head and a sleeveless vest. The clerk and two other employees, a 20-year-old man and a 59-year-old man, who were also in the store, were not injured. A Medley of Valuables is Stolen
WHITE PLAINS-- Sometime between 9 p.m. Nov. 12 and 1 p.m. Nov. 14, suspect(s) cut a phone line and entered a basement window of a residence in the 4200 block of Jambeau Place in White Plains. The suspect(s) stole watches, a television, a laptop and a digital camera. The suspect(s) also damaged several walls and air vents in the residence. Man Arrested with Marijuana
MECHANICSVILLE-- On Friday, November 3, 2006 at 8:10 pm, TFC Linger was patrolling in Mechanicsville when he observed a Buick passenger vehicle. A routine traffic stop was initiated and after making contact with the driver, Clinton Antonis Robinson, Jr., 20, of Mechanicsville, TFC Linger detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A bag of marijuana was found in his right front pants pocket. Mr. Robinson was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia and held pending bond review.
Shots Fired Investigation Leads Police to a Wanted Man
CALIFORNIA-- On Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 4:50 pm, TFC Grimes responded to the area of Laurel Glen Apartments, California, and attempted to locate suspects involved in a reckless endangerment /shots fired complaint. After further investigation it was determined that Christopher Wayne Standen, 19, of California, who resided at the aforementioned address had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. Christopher Standen was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center in Leonardtown and held pending a bond review. The shots fired investigation is continuing by St Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
3 Vehicles Stolen From M.I.R.
BUDDS CREEK-- On Sunday, November 5, 2005 at approximately 6:00 pm, Tpr. McCartney responded to M.I.R. Raceway in Budds Creek for the reported theft of 3 Honda vehicles. The three vehicles were entered into NCIC and the investigation is continuing.
Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for Cocaine and Paraphernalia
CALIFORNIA-- On Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 7:10 am, TFC Linger conducted a routine traffic stop on a Ford van on St. Andrews Church Rd in the area of Bellwood Lane in California. The passenger was asked to exit the vehicle and as she was exiting the vehicle, a smoking device was observed on the front passenger seat where she was seated. A search of Joan Marie Jones, 36, Lexington Park was conducted and seven loose pills were located in her front right pants pocket, suspected CDS. Further investigation revealed that the smoking device contained cocaine. Ms. Jones was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Upon arrival a secondary search was performed at the Detention Center which revealed a plastic bag containing cocaine located in Ms. Jones’ bra. The driver was cited for traffic violations and released from the scene. Ms. Jones was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of Alprazolam and possession of CDS paraphernalia and incarcerated in the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending bond review.
Assailant at Large after Beating Female
LEXINGTON PARK-- On Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 1:00 pm, TFC Grimes responded to an apartment on Liberty Street, Lexington Park, for the reported assault. Upon arrival contact was made with the victim, who stated she had been assaulted by a male, and that he left the area on foot. The victim stated they were involved in a verbal altercation which later led to a physical altercation. Investigation continues.
Female Assaults Two Victims
LEXINGTON PARK-- On Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 12:15 pm, Tpr. McCartney responded to Hibiscus Lane, Lexington Park, for the reported disturbance. Contact was made with the two victims. Further investigation revealed the two victims were assaulted by a female suspect. Investigation continues.
Armed Robbery at Movie Theater in Lexington Park
LEXINGTON PARK-- On Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 12:00 pm TFC Grimes responded to the Leonardtown Barrack for a robbery complaint. After contacting the two juvenile victims and the parents of victim #1 investigation revealed that the victims were robbed at knife point. The robbery occurred outside the Lowes Theatre on the evening of Friday, November 10, 2006. As the victims exited the movie theatre two unknown black males approached the victims and asked them for a cigarette, which the victims complied. The suspects left and later returned where one of the suspects got into an altercation with victim #2. The other suspect pulled a knife from his pocket and told victim #1 to empty his pockets which he did. The unknown black males then fled on foot and the investigation continues.
Marijuana Paraphernalia found in Trunk
MECHANICSVILLE-- On Sunday, November 12, 2006 at 12:24 am, TFC Nims conducted a routine vehicle stop on Route 5 at the Farmers Market in Mechanicsville. Upon contact with the driver, Michael Treman Stewart, 21, of Charlotte Hall, an odor of burnt marijuana was detected. A smoking device, containing burnt marijuana, was located in the vehicle’s trunk. Mr. Stewart was issued a criminal citation for possession of CDS paraphernalia and several traffic citations. He was released from the scene.
Armed Robbery
GLYMONT-- On Nov. 15 at 2:52 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Dash-In located at 5105 Indian Head Highway in Glymont for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed a man and a woman entered the business, purchased merchandise and left the store. They returned a short time later. The man brandished a handgun, jumped over the counter, struck the clerk in the head with the handgun and stole cash from the register. The woman stole several cartons of cigarettes. The suspects then fled the scene. The first suspect is described as a medium-complexioned black male. He is 18 to 24 years old, has braided hair and was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. The second suspect is described as a light-complexioned black female. She is 18 to 22 years of age and was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. Their vehicle is described as a light blue, late-model Ford van or mini-van. The employee, a 35-year-old man, was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Bomb Threat
POMFRET-- On Nov. 14 at 6:50 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to McDonough High School located at 7165 Marshall Corner Road in Pomfret for the report of a bomb threat. Investigation revealed a suspect called the school and made the threat. The school’s principal evacuated faculty, staff and students who had arrived at the school. Sgt. V. Weaver, Cpl. R. Leukhardt and their K9 partners searched the building and did not locate any explosives or suspicious items. Faculty and students were allowed back in the school at 8:41 a.m. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-2222. Officer J. Indecent Exposure
WALDORF-- On Nov. 13 at 8:50 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 12600 block of Willow View Place in Waldorf for the indecent exposure report. Investigation revealed the victim, a 29-year-old Waldorf woman, was sitting in her vehicle when she observed the suspect emerge from the woods and expose himself. The suspect is described as a dark-complexioned black male between 16 and 25 years of age and between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a blue or black jacket, dark pants and a ski mask. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777. Cpl. K. 2 Vehicle Accident
WALDORF-- On Nov. 10 at 2:34 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Leonardtown Road and Gough Drive in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 2002 Ford Explorer attempted to turn left from northbound Leonardtown Road onto Gough Drive but struck a 2003 Cadillac Escalade traveling south on Leonardtown Road. The driver of the Ford, Cynthia Lynn Lawler, 35, of Waldorf, was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Cadillac, Lashonda Nicole Ball, 26, and her passengers, three children ages 13, 9 and 1, all of Waldorf, were not injured. Officer R. Snyder investigated.
Group of Thugs Assaulted Two Men with Fists and a Stun Gun
WALDORF-- On Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the parking lot outside of Dick’s Sporting Goods located at 11080 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed the victims, a 19-year-old man from Fort Washington and a 19-year-old man from Dumfries, Va., were walking in the parking lot when they were approached by three suspects. One of the suspects knocked one of the victims to the ground and struck him several times in the head with his fists. The other victim attempted to help his friend when the suspects knocked him to the ground and struck him in the head. The suspects produced a stun gun and used it on the victims. The suspects stole one of the victims’ jacket and shoes and both victims’ wallets. The suspects fled the scene and ran toward Macy’s. The suspects are described as black males, 16 to 18 years of age, wearing dark clothing and black jackets. The victims sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment. Racially Offensive Words Sprayed at Baptist Church
WELCOME-- Sometime between Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, suspect(s) used orange spray paint to write racially offensive words on the roadway leading to the parking lot of Zion Baptist Church located at 8105 Annapolis Woods Road in Welcome. The suspect(s) wrote “KKK,” “White Power” and “Bang Boom.” Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-2222. Officer K. 16 Year Old is Attacked by 3 to 5 Men
WALDORF-- On Nov. 11 at 10:12 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Adams Lane in Waldorf for the report of a strong arm robbery. Investigation revealed the victim, a 16-year-old Waldorf boy, was struck in the face and tackled by three to five suspects. One suspect stole cash from the victim’s back pocket and fled the scene on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment. Suspects Brandish Weapon at Passerby
WALDORF-- On Nov. 11 at 9:19 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Garner Avenue in Waldorf for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed the victim, a 47-year-old Waldorf man, was riding his motorcycle when he observed the suspect sitting on the tailgate of a pick-up truck pointing what the victim believed to be a handgun at him. The victim went to his residence, called 9-1-1 and went to confront the suspect. As the victim approached the suspect’s residence, the suspect and another person fled to the rear of the residence. The victim then returned to his residence to wait for officers to arrive. Officers found pellets and BBs lying in the bed of the suspect’s truck. Juvenile Steals Merchandise Department Store
WALDORF-- On Nov. 9 at 8:40 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Sears located at 11170 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed the suspect was observed by loss prevention removing price tags from clothing, concealing them and exiting the store. Loss prevention detained the 16-year-old Waldorf girl until officers’ arrival. The girl was arrested and charged with theft valued at less than $100. She was released to the custody of a parent.
