| Detectives with the Montgomery County
Police Major Crimes Division – Robbery Section have arrested a man
responsible for robbing a CVS store last month.
On Tuesday, June 21 at 3:40 a.m., 6th District officers responded to the CVS at 546 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg, for the report of an armed robbery. Responding officers learned that a lone suspect entered the CVS store and approached the pharmacy counter. The suspect then displayed a gun and demanded Oxycontin from an employee. The employee complied and handed the suspect a generic version of Oxycontin. The suspect then fled the store and was seen driving away in a light-colored, four-door vehicle. A highly intensive investigation was conducted by Robbery Detective Deborah Haba which eventually enabled her to confirm the suspect’s identity as John E. Medeiros, age 28, of the 9800 block of Sailfish Terrace in Gaithersburg. During the investigation it was learned that Medeiros, who maintained professional-level employment, was originally prescribed the drug for a legitimate reason. He committed the armed robbery and obtained more of the drug for his personal use. A warrant was obtained for Medeiros charging him with Armed Robbery, First-degree Assault, Use of a Handgun in the Commission of a Felony of a Violent Crime, and Theft Over $500. He may face additional charges. Bond information is unavailable at this time. |
