Bay District VFD Will Hold Meeting to
Unveil New Multi-Million Dollar Firehouse

The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department will hold a public information meeting at the Lexington Park Library on Wednesday, September 29, 2004  from 7 PM to 9 PM in Room "A". The subject will be the new proposed Lexington Park fire station at 46900 South Shangri-La Drive and some of our new  fire apparatus, equipment and fire prevention material.
"We would ask that residents of the Eighth Election District please visit with us. All ages are invited", said the Bay District volunteers on their website.
Substantial tax funds pay for equipment and buildings for Bay District, which not only has the highest tax rate in St. Mary's County for real estate in the Lexington Park, California area, but was turned down last month by the St. Mary's Commissioners when they sought an increase.  With the area's burgeoning commercial tax base and the widespread use of sprinklers in commercial construction, the tax rate should be lowered, not raised.
Bay District has expanded and modernized their existing facility several times and recently bought the office building next door to them but now wants to build a new building a block away near the new library.
