Bohanan Joins Vote To Tax Septic
Systems

"I voted against it before I voted for it," said Del. John Bohanan from House
floor just before Assembly adjourned.
Bohanan said he voted to strip out the tax on septic systems before losing on that motion and then eventually supporting the tax.
Rural area homeowners who have paid to install and maintain their own septic systems without any help from the government, will now have to pay a tax for junk science which pretends that septics somehow cause nitrogen to seep into the waterways.
Gov. Robert Ehrlich first proposed the bill to tax each home on a public wastewater system, which does indeed dump into our rivers and has hurt the Bay.
But the suburban and city folks couldn't bear to shoulder the cost themselves and went after the country folks.
Southern Maryland legislators rolled over on this one.
Bohanan says that he didn't vote to raise taxes and pointed to his vote against the transportation bill which hiked registration fee taxes as an example.
