Booze Factor in Rear Ender Leaving Child Near Death
LEXINGTON PARK ---  Once again the alcohol saturated braindead attitude of St. Mary's motorists played out when police say that the driver of a pickup truck that they believe had been drinking slammed into the rear of a car stopped for a red light leaving a child near death.
On Sunday afternoon, June 6th, St. Mary's Sheriff's Sgt. Chrisopher Medved reports that sheriff's deputies and Bay District Volunteers responded to the scene of the crash on Rt. 235 and FDR Blvd..  Patrick L. Scott, 47, of California, was driving a 1983 Ford F-150 pickup when officers say he failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of a 1995 Ford Escort.

A baby girl, 2 1/2 months old, was in the rear strapped into a toddler's seat.  Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad personnel were on the scene quickly and immediately began CPR efforts.

The child was  then flown by the Maryland State Police Med-Evac Helicopter Trooper 7 to Children's Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.  for treatment.

According to Sgt. Medved, all other persons were treated at St. Mary's Hospital  for minor injuries.  According to the Sheriff's Department report, alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the cause of the collision and charges are pending against Scott, the driver of the pickup truck.

No contributing circumstances were uncovered on the part of the car's driver, say police.

Police identified the other persons in the car as:
Crystal D. Currie age 20  of Lexington Park.  Driver of car and mother of injured child
Catherine I. Currie age 43 of Lexington Park.  Passenger in car.
Two other female juveniles ages 14 and 15 of Lexington Park.  Passengers in the car.

Investigating Officers:  DFC Andre Newsome, DFC Wayne Milam, DFC Mark Clark.
