Booze May Be Cause of Fatal Wreck

DAMERON --- According to St. Mary's Sheriff's Cpl. Mark C. Clark,  Allen W. Smith, 38, of California, Maryland was north bound on State Route 235 south of Park Pines Drive in Dameron, Maryland. For unknown reasons the driver crossed over the center lines into the south bound lane and continued off the roadway on the south bound side of the highway. The vehicle, 1987 Suzuki Samuari, struck a culvert at Park Pines Drive and went airborne for over 50 feet. The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other occupants were in the vehicle and the
deceased was not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in the collision.
Follow-up investigation is being conducted by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Investigative Team.
