Boozing Pilot Locked up For DWI, Gun Charge, Reckless Operation of Plane!!!
BRYANS ROAD --- On Nov. 20 at 4:05 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Maryland Airport in the 3900 block of Livingston Road in Bryans Road for the report of the reckless operation of an aircraft. Upon arrival, officers located Edward James Jones, 46, of Alexandria and a 42-year-old Alexandria man attempting to leave the airport in a vehicle. Investigation revealed Jones had been operating his personally owned aircraft with the Alexandria man as a passenger prior to officers arrival. Jones allegedly left the hanger at a high rate of speed and without lights. Jones then allegedly taxied up and down the runway at a high rate of speed and entered a grassy area where he did "donuts." Jones then allegedly returned the plane to its hanger. Jones was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested and a search revealed he was in possession of a handgun. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Possession of a Handgun and Reckless Operation of an Aircraft and is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
