Brass Rail Parking Lot Great Place for Drug Dealer to Set Up Shop

GREAT MILLS — St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Sgt. Terry Black reports that on 1/15/05 Deputy K. Moritz observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Brass Rail located in Great Mills, Maryland. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Moritz requested the operator of thevehicle produce identification. The operator, Kenny Lyles, 19, of Bryantown, Maryland was unable to provide identification. Upon Lyles exiting the vehicle Deputy Moritz observed a bag containing suspected marijuana. Further inspection of the bag led to the seizure of 70 grams of suspected marijuana and the seizure of $223 in cash Lyles was placed under arrest, charged with Possession Of Marijuana, and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

CALIFORNIA — According to St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Sgt. Terry Black, on 1/14/04 Deputy Moritz responded to the Wal-Mart Parking Lot for the reported Property Destruction. Investigation revealed unknown person(s) slashed two tires on a vehicle belonging to victim Sandy Jones. Loss value is estimated at $100.00.

Webb of Bad Breath

MECHANICSVILLE — On 1/15/04 Dfc. D. Mills initiated a vehicle stop on Old Village Road, Mechanicsville, Maryland. Upon conversing with the vehicle operator, Ohmer Webb, 4th, Dfc. Mills detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Webb’s person. Webb was unable to satisfactorily complete the administered Field Sobriety Tests. Webb was subsequently arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

GREAT MILLS — On 1/14/05 Deputy J. Logalbo responded to a private residence on Church Drive, Great Mill’s Maryland for the reported Theft. Investigation revealed unknown person(s) removed a metal lock box containing $350.00 from a utility closet.

Food Store Purloined Loins

LEXINGTON PARK --- On 12/28/04, at 6:05 p.m., Tpr. L. N. Nims responded to the McKay’s Food Store in Lexington Park for the reported theft. The investigation revealed that Christine Lynn Gatton Burroughs, 43, of Great Mills, removed several items and left the store without paying for the items. The items were valued at $15. Burroughs was charged on a criminal citation for theft under $100. Ms. Burroughs was released at the scene.

CALIFORNIA --- On 1/12/05, at 1:25 p.m., TFC W. P. Goldston responded to the Food Lion in Laurel Glen Shopping Center in California for the reported theft. Further investigation revealed that Kenneth Charles Whitaker, 21, of Bryans Road had concealed merchandise under his jacket and left the store without paying for the items. The items were valued at $35. Mr. Whitaker was placed under arrest and charged with theft under $500. Whitaker was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond review.

CHARLOTTE HALL --- On 1/13/05, at 1:45 p.m., Tpr. R. B. Rezza responded to the Food Lion in Charlotte Hall for the reported theft. The investigation revealed that Felicia Young, 42, of Chaptico, walked out of the grocery store with a shopping cart full of groceries without paying for them. The groceries were valued at $274. Young was placed under arrest and charged with theft under $500. Ms. Young was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond review.

Deadhead Express Delivers Two Bozos to Jail

MECHANICSVILLE --- On 1/15/05, at 10:50 a.m., TFC J. L. Linger initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at Route 235 and Route 6 in Mechanicsville for a seatbelt violation. Upon contact with the driver, an odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed suspected marijuana and metal smoking device in the center console of the vehicle. The driver, Joshua Ralph Demmick, 18, of Lexington Park was placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. The passenger, Jeffrey John Messner, 18, of Lexington Park was also found to be in possession of marijuana. Messner was placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana. Both subjects were transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond review.

CHARLOTTE HALL --- On 1/15/05, at 1:45 p.m., Tpr. L. N. Nims responded to the area of Fred’s Liquors in Charlotte Hall for the suspicious activity. While attempting to conduct an investigation, Jeffrey Aca Bice, 20, of Mechanicsville became disorderly. Mr. Bice was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond review.

HOLLYWOOD --- On 1/16/05, at 5:37 p.m., TFC W. P. Goldston initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at Route 235 and Beck Road in Hollywood for a traffic violation. Upon contact with the driver, an odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed suspected marijuana and a metal smoking device in the driver’s front jacket pocket. The driver, a 17 year old male from Leonardtown was placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana .

Burglars Loot Computers

WALDORF --- On Jan. 14 at 1 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to 301 Computers in the 11700 block of Central Avenue in Waldorf for the intrusion alarm. Investigation revealed suspect(s) forced entry into the business and stole two laptop computers and fled the scene. PISGAH --- On Jan. 13 at 12:45 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Pisgah Store in the 7000 block of Poor House Road in Pisgah for the intrusion alarm. Investigation revealed suspect(s) shattered the window in an attempt to gain entry into the business. Nothing was stolen from the business, perhaps due to being swiped in the last burglary two weeks ago.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-743-2222. Driver Sweved to Miss 2 Deer, Nearly Killed Self

WALDORF --- 01/19/05 2:13 a.m. A 1994 Chevrolet 1500 being operated by Edmond Preston Ferguson Jr., 53 years, of La Plata, was traveling southbound on U.S. Rt. 301, north of Billingsley Road, when he took evasive action to avoid hitting two deer. The Ferguson vehicle collided with the two deer and drove off the roadway. The vehicle slid out of control, hit a SMECO power pole and overturned. Mr. Ferguson was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out. He received incapacitating injuries and was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 2. U.S. Rt. 301 northbound and southbound lanes were shut down for approximately three hours. TFC J. Zimmerman is conducting this investigation.
