Budding Sports Broadcaster Murdered
While on Way Home from Bartending Job
WALDORF --- On Nov. 25 at 3 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a 911 call from an off-duty Metropolitan Police Department officer who reported he heard a gun shot followed by a crash on Smallwood Drive near St. Stevens Drive in Waldorf.
When officers arrived, they located the victim, Christopher Abraham Mader, 23, of Waldorf, in the drivers seat of a gray two-door Dodge Stratus. Mader suffered a gun shot wound to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation revealed Mader was traveling westbound on Smallwood Drive when he was shot. His vehicle subsequently left the roadway and struck a sign and a power box before coming to a stop.
Mader's body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Madar was an intern for Fox News 5 sports and was setting his sights on a career as a sports broadcaster. He was on his way home from a bartending job at the Bennigan's sports bar near the St. Charles Mall, about a mile from where he was slain.
