Burglars Unload True Value, Witness Calls Police
CHARLOTTE HALL --- The St. Mary's Sheriff's Department
reports that burglars took off with a log splitter and 2 roto tillers from the garden
center of the True Value in Charlotte Hall about in the morning. A witness called
police to report the theft in progress but police were not able to catch up with the
thieves who fled northbound on Rt. 5 towards Hughesville. Police communications
dispatchers were slow in notifying Charles and Calvert County police, leaving a free ride
for the escaping felons. St. Mary's Deputy David Corcoran was the first deputy to
arrive on the scene and he reports that the stolen equipment was worth about $2,000.
