Calvert Delegate Carves Conservative, Green Path While
Garnering Labor Support in Bid to Keep Seat
PRINCE FREDERICK ---- Del. Sue Kullen, who was
appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Del. George Owings
two years ago when the longtime delegate from Owings was appointed Secretary of
Veterans Affairs, has earned endorsements from a wide variety of groups.
Kullen is facing off against Calvert Commissioner David Hale, who has been
chomping at the bit to run for delegate but would never have challenged George
Owings. Hale, counting on a growing GOP registration, is hoping to
turn his 8 year run as commissioner into a successful race for the General
Assembly.
The following announcement was released by the Kullen campaign:
Delegate Sue Kullen announces the organizations supporting and endorsing her in
her bid for continuing to be the Calvert County State Delegate in District 27B.
Maryland League of Conservation Voters
Maryland State Teachers Association
Calvert Education Association
Maryland Nurses Association
National Rifle Association
Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO
United Healthcare Workers
“I am running on the issues of e-squared, education and the environment, so I am pleased that my voting record in my two years in office has earned the support of the Maryland and Calvert Teachers Association and the Maryland League of Conservation Voters” said Kullen.
“I will work hard to pass legislation and support projects that improve the water quality of the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay. The Bay and the River represent our economy and our health of the region. I will not waste a moment in passing best practice legislation that will bring back a vibrant Patuxent River. I worked with Former Senator Bernie Fowler and other environmentalists last year to pass a Patuxent River Bill. Although it passed it was amended significantly and does not yield the immediate results of the original bill. I will work tirelessly to pass an even stronger Patuxent River Bill next year.”
“I will continue to fight for the full funding of education and specifically for the Geographical Cost of Education Index which will extraordinarily help rural areas of the state.” “My goal is for Calvert County to be the number one school district in Maryland.”
“Since I represent the farming community of Calvert, the endorsement from the Maryland Farm Bureau and the Calvert Farm Bureau means a lot to me. I will not let the farmers down.”
“I will fight to protect Second Amendment Rights so the NRA endorsement was important as I represent the hunters and sportsmen of the county.” “It is time we focus on criminal control rather than just gun control.”
“As I fight for working families and to strengthen the middle class, the support of Labor and United Healthcare Workers are an important endorsement as I work with them to improve healthcare, retirement, wages, and access to college for children of hard working families.”
